"We're still conducting an active search," Sgt. Jerami West of the Clay County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday morning. "Our efforts have switched from a search and rescue to a search and recovery." People from agencies in Vermillion, Wakonda, Beresford, Watertown and Elk Point so far have not found a trace of Charles Edward Boulden, 76, after his car was swept off the road in high water. "A local resident watched the car go in the ditch," West said. "The witness didn't see the driver leave the car." The Vermillion area was hit hard by torrents of rain earlier Sunday morning. By 7 a.m., the rain had let up, but a strong stream of flood water continued to cross University Road along that stretch of road, located in low ground between two large hills. "The car was completely submerged," West said. "When the first responders arrived, they could barely see the car ... and the driver's side door was ajar." Search-and-rescue crews used boats, canoes, an amphibious all-terrain vehicle and drag lines Sunday, hoping to locate Boulden. "People from Vermillion Fire and Rescue and the Vermillion Coast Guard Flotilla put on wet suits and walked through water nearly six feet deep on Sunday," West said. The weary men were relieved by members of Wakonda's Search and Rescue Sunday night. By Monday morning, the water along University Road had gone down, West said, and crews repeated their search of the ditches, and expanded their efforts by checking nearby fields. In total, up to 55 people were involved in looking for Boulden Monday. Searchers in a plane viewed the area from the air while while men scoured the ditches on the ground. The Codington County Search and Rescue Canine Unit arrived at the scene Monday. Monday's efforts ended at 10 p.m. The search resumed Tuesday morning. "We're bringing out a Game, Fish and Parks air boat that can run in shallow water," West said Tuesday. "We are also putting a couple of flat-bottoms out in the water." The car was pushed off the road into an overflowing ditch near 308th St., approximately eight miles north of Vermillion. The Clay County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at 7:08 a.m. Sunday reporting the incident. Local officials are keeping the Boulden family in mind, West said, as the search continues at a hectic pace. "Our office is trying to keep them updated on our progress at least twice a day," West said.

He was born in 1858 according to the 1900 census but there's a smudge on the HQ copy right over the month column. I'm looking for a more specific birth date for John and when he died. He disappears from the census between 1910 and 1920, and so I'm looking for a grave in that time frame. Same for Zetje. Are there any cemetery listings available for Turner County or Home Township? If anyone has more details on this John Wilts family please contact me...thanks! Darren

I have a notation that an Anna Senex was born (and married) April 16, 1883 and one of these has to be incorrect - but it also states she died November 20, 1972 in Marion Junction, Turner County, South Dakota. Can anyone help me in finding an obituary for her. I do not know if this is her married name, her maiden surname or anything about the lady. The surname of SENEX is also known as SINEX, SINIX, SENIX. I have tried the census records to no avail, but most likely she was not in South Dakota in 1930, latest available census reading. I have found 2 male SINEX in Potter County, South Dakota 1900 but that is the extent of my findings. Antoinette (Tacoma, Washington)
