Both of my parents were also from Viborg, so I vacationed there often. I have the Viborg Centennial Book, and one from Hurley too. If you want to e-mail me family names and information on them, I can see if there is anything about them in those books. Candy Pete basically sold candy, had a soda fountain, and held the town liquer license. He was married to Esther Hansen, and they had 7 children. Emmeral, Herbert, Caroline, Warren, Jean, Elaine and Merritt. My mothers family was Alvin and Jennie Christensen, and they had 5 girls, Arlene, Ardis, Lois, Jean and Carol. I don't know much about Inger's brothers except that one operated a general store. My mother remembers visiting the store in the 1930s, but she remembers it being in Irene, S.D. I know you said your grandfather's store was in Viborg, but there are such similarities and I am wondering if your grandfather could be Inger's brother? Inger came to Turner Co. in 1882 from Denmark with her husband, Andrew Jensen, and lived in Daneville/Viborg. They operated a general store in Viborg and are both buried at the Baptist Cemetery there. I have wanted to make contact with someone in the Christensen family so am hopeful these are the same families. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Thanks, It is the correct spelling but Lars is not in the book. Like you I have the Viborg and Hurley books and grew up there. I left in 1961, still go back every few years. Since many of the siblings took different names. My Grandfather Peter Christian Christensen imigrated to Viborg, South Dakota in 1907. He was Candy Pete and ran the confectionary store in Viborg. His sister Helga Pedersen and brother Niels Christiansen can in 1902. There parents were Kristian and Kristine Pedersen from either Hjorring or Sindahl Denmark. I have no maiden name for Kristine, and in some records their names are spelled Christian and Christine. Does anyone have a suggestion? Most of their relatives have passed, so there is no oral history left. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
