Author: velmadon Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.southdakota.counties.turner/14.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi; I am the great grandaughter of George Anson Newberry and Julia Adeline McFadden. She went by the name Adeline. Their daughter Phoebe Anna Betsy Jane Newberry married Jay Thomas Harrison and they were my Grandparents. Great grandma Adeline was a midwife and she taught my Grandma the trade and since my Grandma Phoebe just lived a quarter mile down the road from us on the farm, she delivered me at home in our farm house. My mother is the youngest of Phoebe and Jays children. My mother will be 84 years old in August 2014. She is the only surviving child of theirs. Grandma Phoebe moved into Tisdale, Sask in 1956 and lived just across the railroad tracks from us until her death on Dec.05th 1977. Approximately 10 years ago my mother found out that she had a cousin who was black and lived in the united States. He came out to Saskatchewan to meet my mother, Irene Butt and some of the other relatives. My mother doesn't remember his name, but her cousin Karen Sharp(the daughter of! uncle Roy Newberry, his real name was Leroy, the son of George and Adeline Newberry) might remember his name. I remember Mom saying that he was a preacher.I am thinking that he is the son of James Newberry, Georges brother.I would be more than willing to share whatever information I have on the family . If you look at 1952-1956 issues and find the "50 years ago" section, you might find something. Larry Turner In a message dated 2/21/2014 12:28:48 P.M. 3. Sometime in about 1903/04 my great grandparents, Theodore L. (T.L.) and Laura E. (Wilson) Buchholz, moved to Parker, Turner Co., South Dakota While there they operated the Wentworth House. With them were their three children, Gladys, Beulah, and James. The two girls attended school in Parker. The family left for Ortonville, Minnesota, in about 1907/08. Where would I look for stories and photos of their time in Parker? Jim

(George Cree would be Annie's father. This information was written on the back of glass pictures by Annie Cree Widlon, wife of John Widlon. My mother Ingrid used to correspond with Cree relatives in the San Francisco area and in Australia. We once had a picture of, I believe were the Australia relatives. Also, I think Annie Cree had a brother, John, We also have a picture of Annie Cree and George Cree who appear to be about the same age. It is dated 1888-89. This could be a brother also. But at that date, almost everyone in Turner County was a homesteader. If Joseph and/or Agnes were children of homesteaders, you might check the BLM records for homesteaders. In addition, there are homestead plat diagrams for the various ections naming owners of the various parcels. These are in the county records, probably the clerk's office, but don't overlook the assessor's office. I have a copy of one of these for a different section and it shows the names of the fathers of my great great grandmother and father. Not surprsingly, their respective lands were very close. If you write me at citellus2 at aol dot com, I may have some other sources of surname information for that time period. I am away at present and do not have that information with me. I was thrilled to find the person I was looking for at Daneville School under district 9 in 1891, but he is not there in 1890 or 1892. Then I looked at the other districts and Daneville School is also present under other districts. I thought a district was an area covering certain schools, but it seems that is not the case. Do the districts cover a certain age or what differentiates one district from another? Thanks. His name was Anders Peder Andersen. (He sometimes went by "A.P. Andersen") On the 1920 census, he was a lodger in the household of Earl Dickerson and his wife, Inga, in Daneville, Turner County. In 1930, he was living with Raymond Dickerson and his wife, Laura, in Irene, Turner County. Apparently, he never married. We have searched extensively, online and elsewhere, but have not yet located a date and place of death for this particular Anders Peder Andersen, who was born on March 4, 1891, in Skibsted,Denmark. There are other men with the same, or similar names, who were living in South Dakota at the time, but none of the men that we have found in the records are the correct person. We are hoping that someone related to the Dickerson families listed above might recall this man, who lived with these families, and worked for them as a farm laborer, for ! a number of years. Our friend in Denmark would like to know what happened to Anders Peder Andersen. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
