    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: CURRAN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wdB.2ACE/273 Message Board Post: Seeking any information about George L. Curran who homesteaded in Wasta S.D. at age 28, in Wasta from at least April 27, 1913 through purchase in 1914. His neighbors and witnesses to the land purchase were Irvin L. Barnes, age 28, 1913, who lived in Wasta and went by George's place once or twice a month. George Wagner, age 35, was his nearest neighbor. Other witnesses were James Moran, and Theodore J. Ryan. The land was 160 acres within the Rapid City land district. An affidavit for George's identity was provided by his late father, Patrick H. Curran of Portsmouth, Iowa. The story goes that George was horribly gassed in World War I and died a short time later, leaving his son, Norman Curran, an orphan. He was sent to live with his grandmother in Spokane, WA until of age. I haven't been able to find any military, marriage, birth or other records to date to help locate George beyond 1914. Any lead even if quirky, appreciated.
