His parents were Peter Gigear (Pierre Giguerre) and Mary (Marie) Provencher (Provancha). In 1935, Meric was living in Coal (Cool) Springs South Dakota. Meric lost his wife on August 4, 1834, at home in South Dakota and then lost his mother on August 26, 1834, in Emerson, Nebraska Meric lost his father on December 3, 1890, he was 80 years, 6 months and 23 days old, in Hubbard, Nebraska.
