His parents were Peter Gigear (Pierre Giguerre) and Mary (Marie) Provencher (Provancha). In 1935, Meric was living in Coal (Cool) Springs South Dakota. Meric lost his wife on August 4, 1834, at home in South Dakota and then lost his mother on August 26, 1834, in Emerson, Nebraska Meric lost his father on December 3, 1890, he was 80 years, 6 months and 23 days old, in Hubbard, Nebraska. Background on the Gigear / Giguerre Family: PARENTS: Peter/Pierre Giguerre married Marie Provencher on 16 April 1856, Will County, Illinois Pierre Giguerre born about 10 June 1810, Quebec, Canada Marie Provencher was born 12 Jan 1837, Montreal, Canada Children borne in St. Anne, Kankakee County, Illinois: Gedeon-Pierre Gigurre (Peter) born 19 July 1857 Amedee Gigurre (Arthur Meddie) born: 20 April 1861 Mathilda Marance born: 9 February 1863 Another son was named Louis T. Gigear born 1866 and d. 1841 (also listed was Augusta Gigear b. 1866 d. 1847), Emerson, Nebraska) Grandparents were Louis Provencher and Appoline Provencher dit Beland (second marriage was to Mr. Allen) In 1868, the Gigear family moved westward with a group of French-Canadians by covered wagon and settled in northeast Nebraska in the vicinity of the present town of Hubbard (a French settlement 12 miles northeast of Emersnon), in Dakota County Nebraska. We are seeking information on Pierre Giguerre's parents and his birth place.
