There were two RUTAN land patents in Lyman Co., SD, Peter & John, both in 104-71, Sec. 4 (& 9). Several RUTAN entries appear on SSDI for Chamberlain, SD, just across the Missouri River to the east from Lyman Co. John RUTAN & Caroline OLSON had Carl, b. 1892. Peter RUTAN & Lena PETERSON had Jessie, 1890; & Wm. (22 Aug. 1899 - May 1966, Long Beach, CA).
