FamilySearch database of the Canadian Census of 1881, Sullivan, Grey N., Ontario: NOBLE, John, 60, Irish, Ireland, Church of England, farmer; Martha, 60; ch. b. Ontario: Cathrin, 30; John, 27; Alexander, 25; Sarah, 21; Martha, 13. Are the parents John NOBLE & Martha ROLSTON? Have you traced any other members of John's family? Do you know the name of the younger John's wife or children? There was a land patent in Perkins Co., SD, 19 Feb. 1912, Twp. 21 - 15, in Sec. 27, for John & Mahala NOBLE. The wife's name wasn't usually listed on a patent, so it's possible that John died before he completed the five years' residence for a Homestead [GLORecords/Land Patents]. There was a WPA Cemetery Indexing Project in South Dakota. If this was the exact location of his home, you might be able to identify the place of burial. SD Death Records began mid-1905, available from the Dept. of Health, 523 E. Capitol, Pierre, SD 57501 - 3182. Do you know whether John had a middle name? There are children on the SD Births site for John Maynard, John Monroe, and Charles John NOBLE. Did they attend the Episcopal Church? That was one of the earliest churches to preserve records in South Dakota. Please try to give more clues in your messages.
