The store was a commisary? that he owned in conjuction with a man named Krause, a banker from Deadwood. He also had a woodcutting job, cutting timbers and lumber for the mines. His first wife is buried somewhere near there and he then married a neighbor girl, Hattie Williams, daughter of Nellie Maud Fitger and John Edger (Jack) Williams.
