Am searching for any information that I can get about these people. They had a son named Freeman Elmer SCOTT. These dates were taken off postmarks on letters and postcards addressed to them. There was also the name Morase SCOTT of Wall, SD who was mentioned in some of the correspondence. Am looking for a death date and place of George and I think it is probably in this area. Would be glad to share any info that I have if you would please share yours. Thank you, Jay Cee

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/wdB.2ACE/25.2.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Joanne- Thank you for your reply. I did a little bit more research this weekend and found that Lee A. Merica is listed in the 1900 census. In 1900, he was living with a wife and two children in Mesa County, Colorado- A different wife and children than I've ever heard of, too! The dates and places of birth listed in the census record correspond with what I've learned from you and other sources. The more I learn about this man, the more curious I become, especially since 5 years later he was across the country and marring my ancestor! I'll definately take your advice and try to find a record of divorcement, if such a thing is in existence, and a birth certificate for great grandma Francis Merica. I would love to know more about Jemima and Sylvanus. It seems like they moved around quite a bit (always west?). Do you know what occupation Sylvanus had? In the 1880 census, I found Jemima living with her parents and three children (Selvanice, Jeramiee, and another), and I've wondered what Sylvanus was off doing. I would love to have any more information you have about the Merica's, or Jemima's family. Thank you again for all your help! -Becky Ackroyd

The names aren't that common. Plus to have a child with that close of a name. Were the entries on the marriage certificate typed or hand written. Maybe the age of L. Merica was put in by someone else and they just wrote it wrong. Who knows. Was there a birth certificate of the birth of their child? Did they ever divorce of just go their seperate ways? It's always so difficult when something like this happens. I have quite a bit of info. about Sylvanus and Jemima if it would help. Let me know.

Olsen may be spelled OLSON. Not sure. They may have been in the Fairburn area.... I really appreciate it. Becki

Surnames: Merica, Davis Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/wdB.2ACE/25.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Thank you for taking the time to repond to my posting. I appreciate the information you mentioned, as it may help me discover a little more about my great grandmother's father's family. My great grandmother, Francis LaBelle Merica never knew her father. She was told that her father was named Leroy Augustus Merica, but she had no recollection of him, as the marriage had not lasted more than a few years. She was raised a devout Protestant by her mother Anna Davis. Our family hadn't had any luck finding a marriage licence etc, to prove that Anna Davis had ever been married, until this past fall. Anna Davis had grown up in Reynoldsville, PA, so I contacted the Jefferson County Historical and Geneological Society in Brookville, PA. They found a marriage record for Anna O. Davis, age 28 and Leroy Augustus Merica, age 37. Both were listed as residing in Reynoldsville at the time of the marriage. The man listed Indiana as his state of birth, was a grocer by occupation, and ! his parents were listed as Sylvanis and Jemima Merica. The marriage date was August 10, 1905. Based on that one source, it seemed that Leroy Augustus was a child of the Sylvanis Merica, born Feb 3. 1826, of the Merica's mentioned so frequently on internet sites such as this. But maybe I've been barking up the wrong tree! I suppose ther could be two Sylvanis and Jemima Mericas. I certainly appreciate your help- and would love to know anything else about the Merica's that might guide me in the right direction! Thanks again! -Becky
