Rosane, 23, MN IL IL Henry, 5, Dakota; dau. Cata, 2, KS; & Wm., 3 mos., NE. His working for the railroad helps explain the various locations. There is a land patent for Hardin SMITH in Union Co., [S]D, 1877, Twp. 90 - 50, Sec. 13 SW. I have Sioux Valley Geneal. Society's "Grave Records of Minnehaha Co. Cemeteries," and there's no record of Hardin SMITH there. Have you checked in Bismarck, ND, where Jesse James SMITH was supposedly born in 1884? There would probably not be a death certificate for a person who died in South Dakota before 1905. Do you know what church they attended? There might be a church record.
