    1. Re: Hardin SMITH (ca. 1845 - 1885)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0gB.2ACI/305.1.1 Message Board Post: Marilyn, Thank you so much for your prompt response. I already had the census which you cited for 1880 in NE. I have not checked Bismarck, ND since I really wasn't sure what I was looking for. I knew that Jesse was born there and, as you indicated, official records from 1884/1885 for births, deaths, marriages etc are almost impossible to find. I'm also aware that Jesse married Maud Holden in Yankton Sept 5, 1905 and died May 6, 1906 in Yankton. However, here again, I have no info as to where he is buried. As for church records, I have no knowledge as to whether Hardin and Rose belonged to a church or not. Henry E (bn 1875) married Jennie Daisy Grant (these are my grandparents) in Armour, SD. I have no problem with this information. The only comment I ever heard my grandfather make about his father, Hardin, was that Henry was 10 years old when his father died. If we asked a question, they changed the subject. John W. (bn 1880) never married and moved in 1913 to Canada with his mother, (my ggrandmother), half-brother Bud and half-sister Beatta. I'm having a difficult time finding any info for Kate Smith (bn 1878). She would have been 22 at the time of the 1900 census. According to my grandfather Henry's obit, she was listed only as his sister "Kate" and was living in Willmar, MN - no last name was ever given. However, I have a "McDaniel" cousin in Willmar who diligently searched MN records and could find nothing. I have located Dolly Smith (bn 1882), although there are some questions on Dolly also. My mother, now deceased, told me that there were never discussions relative the Smith family background. It was a "taboo" subject. I have determined where Hardin was born and who his parents were. Well, enough of my rambling. Again, thank you for your prompt response. Lorna
