    1. Spring Conference April 9 in Omaha
    2. Greater Omaha Genealogical Society is happy to announce our speaker for the spring conference will be Paul Stuart Warren. Her topics will be Railroad REcords and Railroad History: methods for tracking; Untrodden Ground; Sources you may not have Encountered; Finding Ancestral Places of Origin; The U. S. National Archives: The Nation's Attic. There are discounts available for G.O.G.S. members and for those who register early. There are offers made strictly to area genealogy societies whose members might want to attend at the regular price (not reserved for G.O.G.S. members): with 5 or more members of their society attending, they will get a $5 rebate off the cost of admission for each member who submits with their group (they do have to submit as a group to qualify for the $5 rebate to their society, which does require pre-registration...and they will get the early bird registration price which is $10 less than at the door.) For those that aren't members, they can consider joining to get the member rate, especially if folks at their society aren't interested in coming over. SO, if you aren't on our regular mailing list and you'd like a flyer, email me (OFF LIST please) or [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) before Sunday to get one sent to you. Paula is a great speaker, just full of energy. It will be held at Creighton here in Omaha, with a cafeteria next door...bring a sack lunch, or eat at the cafeteria, or at area restaurants (there's Burger King, KFC, Chinese, Village Inn & a Taco Bell not far away, with Wendy's, McDonalds, Arby's just a bit further, not to mention restaurants in the Old Market.) We'll have G.O.G.S. Fun Stuff (Tshirts, census helpers, buttons, bumper stickers, 365+1 Genealogy Tips, etc), a fund raising bake sale, and are working on getting other venders into the conference as well. One thing to think about: we are talking about the possibility of doing a day bus trip to the National Archives in Kansas City this summer. This would help prepare you for some of the things you might use. Cost for that trip will be dependent on the size of the bus and the number of people going. Let us know if you would be interested in this also. This will help us decide on whether or not we're going to actually do it. And I know some of you live far, far away from Omaha, but I also know that I've chatted with list folks that live near here, but are far from their ancestral homes--like I am with so many of mine.
