    3. From The Minnehaha-pioneers book I have ocr'ed two pages: Page 471: Nyhus, T. Halvor born May 1, 1835, Meraker, Norway. Sigrid Tostensdaughter, born Kylloplads, August 17, 1833, Stjørdalen, Norway. They emigrated in April, 1865 on the sailship Bergen, and were 7 weeks and 3 days on the ocean over. The captain's name was Arneson. This became the boat's last trip; on its return trip it capsized with man and mouse going down. They bought a house about 2 1/2 miles from Washtedo, Minn., where they lived for five years. The first winter they spent in Min-nehaha Co. ('70 and '71). They lived with Peder Paulson, who then had his home north of John Thompson along the Sioux River. In the spring they moved to the land that became their future home and that bounds Paul A. Risvold's farm on the south. They had 4 children: Torger (died as a child), Anne (Mrs. John Zackariason Meraker), Torger, Randi (Mrs. Hanson). Mr. and Mrs. Meraker have had 11 children. Torger is married to Maria Eliasdaughter Husby and they have eleven children. Randi has been married twice. First with Ole E. Dalenes with whom she had 6 children. And the second marriage with Iver Hanson (Lilleelven: Little creek) and they had 9 children. Halvor died February 26, 1912 and Sigrid, January 8, 1897. Page 444: Ole O. Daleness born 24th of May, 1859, Meraker, Norway, died 19th of April, 1896. Randi Halvarsdaughter born Nyhus, 26th of April, 1872, Minnehaha County. They had 6 children as follow: Oscar born the 9th of April, 1889, died the 4th of January, 1915. Henry born the 2nd of April, 1890; Beret born 25th of July, 1891, died 6th of August, 1891. Beret (Mrs. Verne Maxwell) born the 5th of July, 1892, died the 23rd of September, 1928. Sigrid born the 27th of November, 1894, died 27th of March, 1895. Oline Regine born 31st of January, 1896, died 6th of May, 1896. Second marriage: Iver Hanson Lilleelven born the 23rd of February, 1873, Meraker, Norway, died 30th of April, 1911. They had 9 children as follow: John, born the 20th of August 1898, Selma Mathilda (Mrs. Sam Schunengaard) born the 3rd of February, 1900, Ida Regina (Mrs. Elmer Bennett) born the 14th of September, 1901, Helmer born the 22nd of November, 1902, Olga (Mrs. Theodor Schliem) born the 9th of October, 1904, Thilman born the 8th of March, 1905, Palmer born the 17th of October, 1907, Gordon born the 13th of December, 1909, Myrtle Josephine born the 7th of December, 1911. That family has lived on that Homestead, which Vetle Olson Dahlen once owned. Mrs. Hanson has since the spring of 1928 leased the farm and lived in Dell Rapids. Where do we go from here? 3. Not so simple as I thought, but here is a start. Ardell, if you read this, can you confirm my info and even add more? Randi H(alvorsdatter) Nyhus was born to Halvor T. Nyhus (1836 - 1912) and Sigrid Tostensd. Kylloplads (1833 - 1897) Halvar (Halvor) emigrated in 1864 (or -65) and Sigrid in 1865. They might have travelled together, maybe they already were married. There is not so easy to find any emigration information, due to the lists starting in 1869. Halvar and Sigrid had 4 children: Torger (died as a child) Anne (Mrs. John Zachariason Meraker) Torger Randi Anne and John had eleven children. Torger married Maria Eliasdaughter Husby and they had eleven children. Randi has been married twice, first with Ole E. Dalenes with whom she had 6 children. And the second marriage with Iver Hanson Lilleelven and they had 9 children. Most of the information comes from the "Norwegian Pioneers History of Minnehaha County", Swerdrup Township, pages 471/444. But some also from my local books. More to come... Ragnar in Hell

    3. I might have found them in my old bygdebok from Meraker: Ola Olsen Dalenes b 245 1858, died 4 1896, married Randi Halvardsdatter Nyhus, lives in Amerika. But I'm sorry - it's too late for further digging tonight. I better have a few hours on my back. But tomorrow is also a day. I have more sources I will check then. This ought to be simple to found out. I have copied the most important information given such as birth dates, parents names, cause of death, & burial location, etc. You may email me and I will send you the information. I also found them in the 1920 census. Duane L is the only child listed and he was 2 1/2 at that time. There should be obituaries listed in the local paper, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader. If you are interested in those I could possibly locate them for you. Donna [email protected]

Anthony (Anton) was my grandfather's oldest brother and the only sibling that went "west". He was born in Frankenstein, Rhine-Pfalz, Bavaria in 1842. Came to the US with his parents in 1850 and settled in Salisbury, Herkimer Co., NY. Went to SD Territory in 1882. He is actually buried in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Seattle. The headstone in Graceland is only a memorial stone. There is also a CARRIE R. NABINGER buried in either Graceland or Mt. Vernon ( I don't remember which right now) that I can't place but must belong to the family somehow. The 1899 Mitchel city directory list Lydia as "proprietor" of the Central House but makes no mention of Anthony. She died in 1905 & he died in 1922 (maybe they separated?). If you'd like, I can send you my file on Anthony and his family as well as a short essay about Lydia's family (Mehner).
