    1. [SDMinnehaha] Obit of -Mrs. John H. (Caroline Schnose) Fleming 1859 -1913
    2. Claire Grant
    3. From The Daily Argus Leader, Sioux Falls South Dakota Dated February 3, 1913 (Typed just as it appears in the original Obituary including any/all typos) MRS. JOHN FLEMING DIES AFTER OPERATION Well known Sioux Falls Woman Fails to Survive Operation Her Only Daughter, Herself Seriously Ill, Collapses at News Mrs. John H. Fleming passed away at Mckennan hospital at about 10:30 oclock Saturday night after an illness of about a week. Two years ago deceased had a severe attack of peritonitis, from the effects of which she never fully recovered. The direct cause of death however, resulted from a complication of internal troubles, chief of which was appendicitis. She was removed from her home at 621 West Fourteenth street Wednesday noon and her only hope was an immediate operation. She underwent the operation well and for several hours seemed to be doing exceptionally well, but the severity of the attack was too great and at no time was she considered out of danger. Caroline Amanda Schnose was born at Davenport, Iowa, September 14, 1859 and therefore was 53 years, 4 months, and 17 days of age. In the early seventies her father removed with his family to what is now South Dakota, and she has resided in this state continually since. Thus most of her years have been spent in, or not distant from, Sioux Falls. In 1880 she was united in marriage to J.M. Fleming and the earlier part of their wedded life was spent as pioneers of this section. Surviving her is a husband and a daughter, Mrs. C. A. Smith, both of this city, a sister, Mrs. James Hartley of Waukon, Ia., brothers Fred, at Hurley, S.D., Edward at Wagner, Theodore of Washburn, Minnesota, Louis of Chamberlain, and August E. of Sioux Falls, and a sister, Mrs. John Meer at Davis, S.D. An exceptionally sad feature of taking away is the physical condition of her only daughter, Mrs. C. A. Smith, who, only risen from a sick bed on the day of the mother taking hers, and subjected to the subsequent hard strain, totally collapsed on receiving the bitter news of her mothers death and is at present under the care of a physician. The funeral will take place from the residence at 2 p.m. 621 west Fourteenth street, Tuesday, February 4, Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery where other members of Mr. Flemings family rest. She was a member of the Episcopal church, and fraternal and social auxilleries thereof and a member of the M. B. A. Lodge. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! 3. I'm doing some search for a friend. Her Grandfather is said to be Edward James Flanigan, born Canada, her Grandmother, Mary Pauline Anderson whose family they say was from Minnesota. According to the friend her Mother had had 2 step sisters and 1 step brother surname May, as Mary Pauline Anderson had been married to ? LaMay prior and had children Ann, Hazel, Vivian and George. At some point the La was dropped and they went by May. Hazel married a Songstad and besides what shows in the 1930 census are said to have had more children, Dean and Sheldon. Hazel died sometime around the birth of the last child. 1930 South Dakota, Minnehaha, Sioux Falls District 53 Address looks like 1725 E 4 Russell to me. Songstad All??? Allen maybe? It is enumerated 21 January, 1920 South Dakota, Minnehaha, Sioux Falls ED#184 Looks like Nesmith Ave ?? Flamagan Ed Head 2-there is no dwelling number so I take that to mean since it says Head-2 that the house number is 615 with two families living at that address. I haven't been able to find them in 1930 but considering the name is found on one index online as Flamagan, Ed so hard telling how it is in other indexes. For my friend, I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might have knowledge of this family. I haven't found a death/burial for Edward, Mary or the daughter Hazel. My friend's Mother remained in SD until sometime in the 1950's so assume that they are there somewhere? Regards, Barb Drummer
