This should also go into the archives. There must be some more researchers that want to hear the saga of the Real Kristoffer. If it has already been revealed online, please advise where anyone interested may find it. This may make a great novel. Stephanie and I can talk like this. Marianne, we are old friends. We both enjoy the prairie of South Dakota. Ardell

I just came across the original post yesterday while looking for something else. I just bought a copy of the Minnehaha book so I was doing what we love to do Ardell. ha ha Anyway Ardell, I think you helped rule him out so that is not failure!!! Mariann has already found out what she needed and now we all know it is not the same person. It is always good to have the info on the web like this for future searchers! Thank you for the assist Ardell!! Thank you Mariann for responding to us. I know you can't delete info once it is posted so that is ok. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0gB.2ACI/49.1.3 Message Board Post: Dear Mariann: As I said, I had not followed your information on Kristoffer Stokken from the beginning. Sometimes we call that "following the thread" of information. I was following a message posted by Stephanie Beloit on March 13, 2004. I have worked with Stephanie on other researches. I n her message, she gave the name, birthdate, and the place of birth given as Stordoen. My information sure sounded right. First I looked in the book that Stephanie mentioned and then I read a couple of other Minnehaha History books but found nothing on your Kristoffer. Even if you had found him in 1900 in a census or other site, it would be very likely he had moved away to another place. You know how restless these Norwegians can be! When I need some clues, I often go to the surname navigator site. The URL is listed in my previous message. I went through Norway and then US. It is a great web site and there were several messages you had written in the Rootsweb Message Board. I should have read them all, I read only one. Using the July 2, 1866, along with Stord in Hordaland, when I came to the Family History Page, given in the surname navigator web site, I thought I had found your Kristoffer. It is obvious that I did not. That is what I get for not following your inquiry from the very beginning. The information that I sent to you was Christian and not the right man, so my help was given with the joy of research, but I failed in the end result. Stephanie must have the wrong information too, but I am sure she tried just as hard as I did. She does a lot of Hordaland research, so there again, I thought I had found your man. Thank you for your reply and I am so sorry for mistake, Ardell Sortomme Drube of Greeley, Colorado

He was christened at the Stord Kirke in Stord on the 15th of July in 1866. His father was Christian Augustinusen Helland and mother was Christie Larsdtr Nysaeter. Christian died in Beach, North Dakota in 1940 and is buried in Sentinel Butte, North Dakota. This is taken from Family Search and the submitter was Osvald Gilje. Also check the surname navigator web site: (Norway and US) http://www.rat.de/kuijsten/navigator/norway/index.html for more clues. Perhaps Marianne should give her e-mail address, just in case anyone is related to Christian. North Dakota also has some great genealogy resources, especially within the county rootsweb sites. Ardell

The book called Minnehah Norwegian Pioneers History says that Christian Stokken was born 2 July 1866 from Stordøen. It says he was unmarried but the book also just covered 1866-1896. You found him in Minnehaha in 1900? Regards Stephanie
