If you haven't gotten a Handy Book for Genealogists yet, but are wanting one (without paying the $60 per copy), Everton has them on sale at the moment for $19.95. Go to http://www.familyhistorynetwork.net/ and hit shopper. It'll come up. Some are saying they're having trouble with it going through, but I called. I don't get anything from them if anybody buys one, but highly recommend the book to everyone with very much American genealogy anyway. (I'm on MY fourth edition). The Handy Book is a very good basic reference book for places that you might be researching. Karen in Omaha (Just for fun, tell them I sent you and see what happens if a dozen or two people order the book. I'd be interested to know.)

His second oldest son Jonas (better known as John Nelson), was the very first to file for a homestead in Minnehaha County in 1866. My great great grandfather Nils could tell me about all of my ancestors and relatives living in Norway, plus tell me about the journey to America, which took seven weeks by sailing ship. My ancestors, along with John Thompson, were the very first to settle in the Mapleton Township of Minnehaha County, Dakota Territory in 1866. Donald Nelson

There was a Hoyt family who had a gas station in Brandon, SD for many years. They sold it several years ago. There is a Bob Hoyt who lives in Sioux Falls. He is about 64 years old. Look him up in the telephone listings and call him. I looked in the phone book and there is not a phone # for him. There no Hoyt's listed in Brandon. The time to register for the Annual Conference for Nebraska State Genealogical Society at the reduced pre-registration rate is almost gone. Pre-registrations have to be postmarked by the 15th to save a few dollars. Keynote speaker is Dr. George Schweitzer who does historic re-enactment as a teaching tool with his classes. For a flier, email [email protected] and she will mail one out to you. There is going to be a private reception at the W. Dale Clark Library on Friday night for the conference attendees--a chance to look over the collection, possibly do a bit of quick research...but you have to be a conference attendee to come. Karen
