I have made some progress since posting. Because of the kind people of Hawley, Minnesota, I got the obituary for Alma Mannigel. I still did not know the date of death for Robert Mannigel but because the North Dakota Historical Society will do a search for names, I was able to get the date of death for Robert Mannigel. So then I ordered his death certificate. He died April 21, 1929 in Fargo, ND. Alma Mannigel's maiden name was INGALLS. Thank you for taking time to respond to my query. I still would like to know where Robert and Alma married. It would have beens sometime in the early 1920s.

Greater Omaha Genealogical Society is happy to announce our speaker for the spring conference will be Paul Stuart Warren. Her topics will be Railroad REcords and Railroad History: methods for tracking; Untrodden Ground; Sources you may not have Encountered; Finding Ancestral Places of Origin; The U. S. National Archives: The Nation's Attic. There are discounts available for G.O.G.S. members and for those who register early. There are offers made strictly to area genealogy societies whose members might want to attend at the regular price (not reserved for G.O.G.S. members): with 5 or more members of their society attending, they will get a $5 rebate off the cost of admission for each member who submits with their group (they do have to submit as a group to qualify for the $5 rebate to their society, which does require pre-registration...and they will get the early bird registration price which is $10 less than at the door.) For those that aren't members, they can consider joining to get the member rate, especially if folks at their society aren't interested in coming over. SO, if you aren't on our regular mailing list and you'd like a flyer, email me (OFF LIST please) or [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) before Sunday to get one sent to you. Paula is a great speaker, just full of energy. It will be held at Creighton here in Omaha, with a cafeteria next door...bring a sack lunch, or eat at the cafeteria, or at area restaurants (there's Burger King, KFC, Chinese, Village Inn & a Taco Bell not far away, with Wendy's, McDonalds, Arby's just a bit further, not to mention restaurants in the Old Market.) We'll have G.O.G.S. Fun Stuff (Tshirts, census helpers, buttons, bumper stickers, 365+1 Genealogy Tips, etc), a fund raising bake sale, and are working on getting other venders into the conference as well. One thing to think about: we are talking about the possibility of doing a day bus trip to the National Archives in Kansas City this summer. This would help prepare you for some of the things you might use. Cost for that trip will be dependent on the size of the bus and the number of people going. Let us know if you would be interested in this also. This will help us decide on whether or not we're going to actually do it. And I know some of you live far, far away from Omaha, but I also know that I've chatted with list folks that live near here, but are far from their ancestral homes--like I am with so many of mine. As I gaze around me from this height of 200 feet, or perhaps more, I see our beautiful Sioux River winding its way through a lovely valley, and tumbling over mighty rocks, forming a foaming cataract. Oh! how beautiful the large island, covered with verdure is on this barren prairie. This island contains nine acres of ground, and its principal trees are elm and oak. Sioux Falls is a thriving little place, and as we sit here, we can see the carpenters at work putting up the frames of business houses as well as residences, and the masons venering them with brick. The largest hotel of the place is a large venered building. I smile when I think of the surprise Eastern people manifest as they see the beautiful residences, elegantly furnished of some of our citizens. Before us lies the railroad which was finished through here last month, and on which they are now at work. A great many strangers are coming in every day, some seeking fortunes, and others pleasures; among the latter are six gentlemen, friends of ours, from Evansville, Wisconsin, our former place of residence, surprise us by stepping in upon us unexpectedly. We had a very pleasant visit with them. One mile beyond the depot is the cemetery, on the hillside; it is a beautiful yet lovely spot, and a cherished place for us, because alas! one year ago, we laid all that remained of our beautiful and dearly beloved sister there, and only last month a little niece; just a little while and we too may be laid thre. Our home is just at the foot of the bluff, and Marion and husband think it is a pretty place. Now I am no story writer, my friends, but please accept my poor description of my western home.
