Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0gB.2ACI/251.1.1 Message Board Post: Blanch Louise Dhabolt was the daughter of Gertie Erickson and Edward Dhabolt. She was born about 1902-1903. Edward died in 1905 and Gertie married John Okeson. But I always thought my Blanch married Olaf Torkelson. But on-line a marriage records shows that a Blanch Dhabolt married Frank McManama on 24-Feb-1919, but I'm not sure this is my Blanch Dhabolt/Okeson. In the 1910 census she is listed as Blanch Okeson. 1988 I have a Betty Viereck who wrote to a family member asking for information for her mother Blanch Torkelson who is 85 and in a nursing home. She wanted information on Edward Dhabolt who was Blanch's father. So for sure I thought this was the correct line (Torkelson) In the 1920-1930 census there is a Blanch L. Torkelson married to a Olaf. Also in the 1930 they have a daughter Betty (which I think this is Betty Viereck). Then I got a death index record that Blanch Myrtle Torkelson was b: 5/30/1901 and her maiden name was Homes. This information does not fit my Blanch Dhabolt, so this is NOT my line. In 1920 Blanch Torkelson is 17 which is the correct age if this is my Blanch but this death record is correct Blanch Holmes should be 19 in 1920, and if my Blanch Dhabolt was married in 1919 I would think in the 1920 census she would still be married to McManama. So which Blanch is my correct line? Thanks for the informaiton. Maybe you can keep my information and if you are ever researching you might stumble across some of these names. I have to a marriage look up for the Blanch Dhabolt and see who is listed as her parents, and they do a marriage look up for Blanch Holmes and maybe even do a look up for Blanch McManama incase her husband died and she married right away. I am again at a brick wall with Blanch - HELP! Thanks for the information you gave me. Now I'll have to pull the cemetery records for John and Gertie Okeson and see what information they give there. Thanks again. Brenda [email protected]

V. (1871 - 1905) & Lester (1904 - 1905). USGenWeb > South Dakota > Minnehaha County has a link to the location of some of the cemeteries in Minnehaha County. Use "Show feature location" and zoom in. Death certificates were required from mid-1905, so there's a 50 - 50 chance there would be a death certificate of E. V. (Edward?) SD Births: Ed DHABOLT & Gertie ERICKSON had Minnie Edna, b. 3 Feb. 1901; Wm. Henry DHABOLT & Nellie Jane TRUMBULL had Lloyd Edward, b. 17 Aug. 1899, both in Minnehaha County. FamilySearch database of the 1880 Census, Liberty, Lucas, Iowa: DHABOLT, Christopher, 49, b. France; wf. Catherine, 47, b. Germany; two sons b. IN: Jacob, 25, & John, 21; ch. b. Iowa: George, 18; Mealy, 12 (female, Amelia?); Edward, 10; William, 8; Mary, 5, & Frances, 2 (female). Note that the above family had both Edward, b. ca. 1870, & William, b. ca. 1872, the right ages to be having children ca. 1900. Edward's age, 10, makes his birth a year before the year on the grave record for E. V., but it's close. I checked for land patents, but I don't see any for DHABOLT in Minnehaha County. Do you think that Edward or William was the father of Blanche? Perhaps you could get the 1900 or 1910 Census to see whether Blanche was with one of them.

I have an ancestor that was adopted out of the South Dakota Children's Home, Sioux Falls in 1905. Rumor has it that his birth mother worked and lived there until she died.
