FARMER DIES IN FIELD Special Dispatch--Sioux Falls, SD November 1 August Schwartz a well known farmer living near Ramona was found dead in one of his fields. When last seen he was engaged in trying to extinguish a fire which was sweeping over his stubble. His death resulted from heart disease caused by over exertion. We're extracting obit information in the Omaha newspapers for an index file and since I'm on the Minnehaha list having once lived there, thought I'd copy it and forward it on. Usually we only index people within about an hour's drive of Omaha, or with an obvious Omaha connection (like it states that a family member is living in Omaha or the deceased had lived in Omaha/area.) This individual might be related to somebody on the list. Karen

The stevne (gathering) will include genealogy labs and research assistance with all the resources of the bygdelags (organizations): books, films, maps, family histories. There will be multiple seminars on genealogical, cultural and historical Norwegian-American topics. The program includes a tour to settlement areas of Norwegian emigrants in Richland County, North Dakota, a visit to the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead, Norwegian food and music. There will also be a "pitchfork fondue", Norwegian craft demonstrations and vendors. Those planning a visit to Norway in the future might want to take advantage of the opportunity to learn a little of the Norwegian language in a Saturday seminar. And, of course, there will be the opportunity to visit with others who share an interest in Norwegian heritage. The stevne is open to the public although advance registration is requested. Tours and meals must be reserved in advance. Additional information, including hotel information, the program schedule and registration forms are found on the Trønderlag web site: http://www.tronderlag.org/stevne2005.htm.

Is anybody in Sioux Falls able to take a couple of digital photos for me? I'm not sure which cemetery, but think it is in the South east part of the city--and was a large one. I have Gladys Herron Peterson/Petersen, her son Roger (killed in Viet Nam), and maybe her husband Roy...unsure whether he's still alive or not--he's a half nephew of my dad's. Gladys died in 1998. I would love digital photos of their markers if anybody could do that. I'd be happy to reciprocate with pictures from Omaha. Karen
