Nidaros Cem., Garretson, Sverdrup Twp., Section 15: Lars ERICKSON (1868 - 1950). Could they have dropped Kirkvold? The only KIRKWOOD on the FamilySearch database of the 1880 Census was in Twp. 112, Brookings Co., Dakota: KIRKVOLD, John, 36; wf. Inbgorg O. {sic}, 30; son Dorte, 3, all from Norway; Caroline, 6 mos., b. Dakota. There were two Lars ERIKSONs of the right age on the 1880 Census, in Franklin, Vernon Co., WI: Lars, 11, b. Norway s/o John & Gernelda. In Monona, IA: Lars, 11, b. Norway, nephew of Ole & Nettie STRAUD. You might find information in the application and proof papers at the National Archives for the land patent of John H. KIRKVOLD, Je. 1888, Brookings Co., Twp. 112 - 47, in Sec. 34. Was the family from Kirkvold Gard, Selbo Prestegjeld, Tydal, S. Trondelag, Norway? I have a bit of trouble using Digitalarkivet http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=hentglobal®ister=gardsnavn If I understand, Kirkvold, 1865 : Ingebrigt Ols., 50; Bereht Johnsd., 54; ch. John, 18; Peder, 14; Kari, 22; Serianna, 7; Kari Olsd., 86--and John was pretty close in age to the one in Brookings County, 1880, b. ca. 1844-47. Unfortunately, it looks as if John might have had a wife Anne in 1875, but the names weren't very consistent, and he could have had a different one by 1880. There was another Kirkvold in 1875. Do you have any further clues?

I'm looking for death dates and/or obituaries for: John Clinton Lott, died 26 Nov 1916 and Harriet Louisa (Kipp) Lott, died 1900-1910 They were living in Sioux Falls on the 1900 census. John, then a widower, was back in Hartford with their son George by 1910. I'm thinking both John and Louisa are buried in Sioux Falls as I don't find them listed in the Minnehaha County cemetery index. Thanks for any help. Margie

Could they have used Olson as the surname? In 1880, the FamilySearch database has Marten OLSON, 29; Anna, 29, they & parents b. Norway; son Olof, 2, b. Dakota. They were next to Ole OLSON, 26, Jennie, 20; they & parents b. Norway; with Lena, 2, b. Dakota, & "other" Nels, 24, b. Norway. I thought you might find some of the above children listed on the Social Security Death Index, but most are not, at least under BONRUD. For Olie M. BONRUD (4 Aug. 1896 - 23 Jan. 1990), SSDI says SSN issued, SD, but place of death isn't given. There are other BONRUD entries, but birth dates don't match. Perhaps you can track down somebody with the surname!

Renee, it may be helpful for anyone who is trying to help you to know that the SD death index shows the name as Johan HARNISH; it's possible that a death notice or obituary used this spelling, particularly if it appeared that way on the death certificate. Have you procured Johann's death certificate? It might indicate his place of birth.
