I didn't look for obituaries as there wasn't too much printed in the local paper about deaths. I can look for you if you want. Edward Larson, lived in Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, SD. Was 78 yrs 6 mo 3 days. Born in Norway and was a widower. Died July 12 1916 in Sioux Falls SD. Cause Hypostitic? pneumonia as result of fractured leg & (not sure of next word) received in auto accident. Dr k Zittity. Ronaug Larson, lived in Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County SD. Was 75 yrs 3 mo 10 days. Born in Norway, married. Died May 8 1914 in Sioux Falls SD. Cause vitial organ - cordis & bronchilis chronica. Dr K Zettity. There was not much recorded on the death records back in those days. The spelling leaves a lot to be desired! You may request a copy of the death records for a fee of $10.00 each by sending a check to the Register of Deeds Office at the Minnehaha County Courthouse, 415 N Dakota Ave, Sioux Falls SD 57104. I also found a page in the book "History of Minnehaha County" by Bailey 1899 that we have in our genealogical library. It reads: Larson, Edward, was born in Norway on a farm near Christiania, on the 9th day of January, 1838. He never attented school a day in his life. After working on a farm until fourteen years of age he went into business for himself in a small way in the country. At sixteen he went to Christania, and engaged in business there until he emigrated to this country. He arrived at Rushford, Minnesota, on the 16 day of August, 1869, and took empolyment in a tin shop. He continued in this work until he removed to Sioux Falls, where he arrived on the 10th day of August, 1876. He then secured by pre-emption a quarter section of land in Benton township; built a sod house, and moved into it; but the following spring he came to Sioux Falls and put up a building on Phillips Avenue, sixteen by thirty feet, and opened a tin shop. For ten years he did business at this place, and then removed to his present location on eighth street. From the time he commenced business down to the present w! riting, he has been constantly adding to his line of business, so that today he has everything that a person would be liable to call for in a hardware store. His energy, thrift, and enterprise in business is proverbial, and it has resulted in his accumulating quite a large property. Besides his business property he owns at the present time a fine residence, five farms, and more thaN a dozen tenement houses. He never meddles with politics, and would as soon think of lecturing upon scientific subjects as to run for office. There are but few men like him in any community. He lets other people's affairs alone, attends strictly to business, and is a respected citizen. We have another history book on Minnehaha County that might give more of his family info but wanted to make sure I had the right Edward Larson. If you feel you would like me to look further, please let me know. Donna [email protected]

There is a great deal of information about Norway online at Digitalarkivet, but it can be difficult to find because of the patronymic naming system; only partial translation; and places not being identified as farm, (sub)parish, or city in people's records.
