Kenneth SCHOOLER, b. 1908, still owned the SCHOOLER & HARMON homesteads when he wrote an extensive family history included in "Early Settlers of Lyman Co., " 1974. He was youngest son of Wm. H. SCHOOLER. Kenneth's uncles, twins Fred & Frank SCHOOLER, married HARMON girls & moved to Alberta, Canada, 1912+. Kenneth SCHOOLER indicated that Jacob HARMON homesteaded in Crescent Valley while Wm. H. SCHOOLER was in military service in the 1890's. That agrees with Jacob's first patent in 1900, after at least five years' residence. On the SD Births site, there are Ollie May, b. 4 Oct. 1898, & Mary Adeline, b. 2 F 1900, daus/o Clarissa Viola HARMON & Franklin Albert SCHOOLER. There are no children born to Jacob HARMON listed on the SD Births site. There is an 1885 SD State Census at the State Historical Library, Pierre, SD 57501. They can search it for a fee, or you can order it on InterLibrary Loan through your local public library. [It may not be complete.] Try the 1900 & 1910 Federal Censuses.
