JONES (24 S 1858, near Glenwood, IA - 1935). They settled near Panama, Shelby Co., IA, & later lived near Dunlap, Ute, & Whiting. In 1899, the couple and their two youngest children came by covered wagon from Whiting to the homes of Cordelia's brothers, John JONES near Dirkstown, Lyman Co., and Stephen JONES, Westover on the White River, south of Murdo. William GAMMON filed on a homestead twenty miles west of Oacoma. They returned to Whiting, IA, where they sold some of their holdings and in March 1900 came by train to Chamberlain, and from there ferried their goods and livestock across the Missouri. Mr. GAMMON had a general store and also engaged in the real estate business in Oacoma. In 1921, he bought land between Brownsville & San Benito, Cameron Co., TX, where they hoped to retire, but the depression and a hurricane in Sept. 1933 changed their pl! ans. Children: Carl (ca. 188_ - 24 N 1951, heart attack) m. Lydia SCHATZ (7 S 1889 - Apr. 1981, Salem, OR). Her parents lived near the mouth of the White R. Carl homesteaded north of Draper; moved to Caputa & Farmingdale, SD, and in 1939 moved to Salem, OR. Florence m. 1909, L. E. COLLINS, in 1921, moved to Rapid City, SD, later to Minneapolis. [She may have been Florence (3 Je. 1884 - Apr. 1977, Morris, MN), eight d. MN, per SSDI, and those dates best fit this family. Note that the girls also homesteaded, and hers was in 1911.] Ethel (18 N. 1886 - Je. 1973, Port Huron, MI, traffic accident, SSN issued in TX), m. Apr. 1942, Fred CADOW (24 Apr. 1879 - Aug. 1962, MI) SSN issued PA; li. Sandusky, MI. Mabel (31 Aug. 1891 - July 1978) m. Frank KRETZ, to Los Fresnos & Harlingen, TX. Edith (10 May 1893 - Feb. 1986, Lincoln, ME) m. Feb. 1934, Henry A. BOE[OF] (2 July 1895 - Apr. 1978, Minneapolis), lived at Kennebec until 1970. Dates from SSDI should be checked against obituaries or death certificates to make sure these are the correct people, but they seem to fit.
