Greetings, I wonder if anyone might know of any account which might have been published about the Primitive Baptist church which was organized on August 4, 1907, near Presho, Lyman co., S. D., by W. T. Branson (minister), and Frank McCormick, and others. I do not know whether they had a church building or how long it existed. Since I posted that message, I received a response from an 84 year old child of Nellie Schooler (married to Fred Schooler) who lives in Canada. I sent a letter to him (not knowing if he was the correct Schooler or not) and he responded with a phone call. He was a delightful man, and he said I may call him back when I want to talk more! Thank you again for all the information...I am having a "ball"! Peggy

You can find the legal description as above through Google > BLM.GLO. Kenneth SCHOOLER, b. 1908, still owned the SCHOOLER & HARMON homesteads when he wrote an extensive family history included in "Early Settlers of Lyman Co., " 1974. He was youngest son of Wm. H. SCHOOLER. Kenneth's uncles, twins Fred & Frank SCHOOLER, married HARMON girls & moved to Alberta, Canada, 1912+. Kenneth SCHOOLER indicated that Jacob HARMON homesteaded in Crescent Valley while Wm. H. SCHOOLER was in military service in the 1890's. That agrees with Jacob's first patent in 1900, after at least five years' residence. On the SD Births site, there are Ollie May, b. 4 Oct. 1898, & Mary Adeline, b. 2 F 1900, daus/o Clarissa Viola HARMON & Franklin Albert SCHOOLER. There are no children born to Jacob HARMON listed on the SD Births site. There is an 1885 SD State Census at the State Historical Library, Pierre, SD 57501. They can search it for a fee, or you can order it on InterLibrary Loan through your local public library. [It may not be complete.] Try the 1900 & 1910 Federal Censuses.

Harmon lived in Lyman County for several years; I know for sure he was working there in 1881during a big flood and in 1892 was living on the White River. Does anyone have a census that would cover these years? He mentions that when he came there, Chas. Kinzy was county auditor and J. T. Bartine was county judge. I am most interested in finding out if his youngest son, Joseph N. Harmon, was born there on 11/11/1883, and if he married his wife, Caroline Allen, there. I have no early info on Caroline at all. Thanks, Peggy Harmon

COCHRANE & William MILLAR from Alva, Scotland, whose second son Robert MILLAR came in 1848 to Lake Zurick, IL, thirty miles from Chicago. In 1850, his fiancee Jean BENNETT came from Scotland and they were married. In May 1856, nine adults and seven children started for Kansas but then decided to settle at North Bend on the Platte River, NE. In 1902, Robert's son Wm. MILLAR brought his wife Mary Jane & ch. Howard J., Wm. E., Dennis, Robert J., Frederick C., Edward L., & Florence to South Dakota. The wife, daughter, and son E. L. traveled by train to Chamberlain. The others traveled by covered wagon, trailing horses and cattle. When E. L. provided the article, Dennis was of Geddes; Frederick at Gregory, & E.L., Rapid City, SD. I think you can find more on the sons online on ssdi (Social Security Death Index.)
