    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Cullen Conner Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xgB.2ACI/18 Message Board Post: We are interested in information about the Cullen family who migrated to SD from Illinois. Here is part of Margaret (Conner) Cullen's obituary. If anyone has obits or photos on any members of this family, we would like to hear from you. "Former Galena Woman Is Killed in Auto Accident from "The Advocate Leader" of Reliance, SD 3/31/1931 Come when, or in what form it may, death is a terrible and solemn thing. Yet death took one of the well-known women of Reliance early Sunday evening about eight o'clock as the Ed Cullen family was leaving St. Mary's Church where they attended devotions. Mr. Cullen and his son crossed the highway, expecting Mrs. Cullen to follow immediately. However, she had stopped to visit with some of the ladies for a few minutes. A touring car and a truck were parked along the curb close to the crossing in such a manner as to obstruct the view of the driver of the car and Mrs. Cullen in seeing the approaching car. She stepped from behind these cars out into the highway just as Charles Murphy came down the street with his car. She was run down before either one had warning of the presence of the other and struck the ground with such force that she was injured internally. There were several witnesses to the accident, but the driver of the car was not held responsible. The injure! d woman was carried to her home where she died forty minutes later after having received the last rites of the Catholic Church. Margaret Agnes Conner was born in Galena, Illinois, August 24, 1854 where she grew to womanhood. She married Edward Cullen January 21, 1875. They lived in Galena until the spring of 1886 when they moved to Remsen, Ia. In 1897 they moved to Mitchell, SD, where they lived until 1904 when they settled on a homestead in Lyman County. In 1917 they retired from the farm and moved to a new home in Reliance where they have since resided. Seven children were born to this union, five sons and two daughters. Two sons, John, the eldest, and Bernard, the youngest in the family and an elder daughter Petronella whose name in religion was Sister Marie Bernard of the order of St. Dominic preceded her in death. Those surviving are her husband, three sons, William J., Edward P. of Reliance, James J. of Avoca, Neb., and one daughter Mary M. remains at home. ! There are also two sisters Kathleen and Clara Conner of Council Bluff s, Ia. Mrs. Cullen led an exemplary Christian life, zealously devoted to home and church and was highly esteemed by the people of the community. Six years ago, the golden anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Cullen was celebrated by relatives and friends in which the entire community extended felicitations."

    1. [SDLyman] John Albert Bidwell of Canada and then South Dakota
    2. barb brown
    3. Looking for information on John Albert Bidwell and his wife Mary Ann who moved to South Dakota in 1900. I only have the name of one child born to them but there could be others. Julina Beatrice Estella Bidwell was b.Sept. 22, 1889,in Ashwa, Ontario, Canada. Married Alvin Wesley Buchtel, Feb. 21, 1908 in Gregory, Sd. Alvin and Julina's children were; Ida ,Myrtle,Beryl,Alvin John,Leroy, and Mary. All were born in Iona, SD. When Julina died Aug.5, 1931 her mother was by her side but she was then living back in Anerid, Sask. Canada and her name was Mary Ann Lillie. I would like to know what happened to John Albert Bidwell after coming to South Dakota, and when Mary Ann moved back to Canada and remarried. A few years ago I know that my great Aunt Mary or one of her children traveled to Canada and met her mothers (Julina) family, so I am fairly sure they still are there somewhere. Any family history on John and Mary Ann would be greatly appreciated. Barbara __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
