June 14 At Buffalo Gap Thursday night, by a sudden rise and overflow of Beaver Creek, caused by a water-spout, eleven persons were drowned whose names are as follows: Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Rhodes, Oliver Rhodes, Frank Reed, Clyde Rhodes, Cliff Rhodes, Maud Rhodes. The latter three were children. All were emigrants on their way to the Hills from Mills county, Iowa and four men who were going from the Hills to the railroad, whose names are unknown, met with a similar fate. Two of them were team owners and one a passenger and night-herder. In about five minutes the whole neighborhood of the creek was flooded, and the waters subsided as rapidly as they rose. I was researching a Missouri newspaper when I came across this article. Eellitta Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
