    3. "The Sabbath Recorder", Vol 210, No 5, p 27, May, 1988. Clara Van Horn, 94, of North Loup, Nebraska, died on February 21, 1988, at the Valley County Nursing Home. Services were held on February 23, 1988, at the Seventh Day Baptist Church in North Loup, with Rev. Kenneth Burdick officiating. Burial was at the Hillside Cemetery in North Loup. Memorials are suggested to the church. Clara was born on April 26, 1893, in Flandreau, South Dakota, to Hector and Emma (Ellis) Severance. She attended schools throughout the United States as her family moved to different states. She was married to Lloyd VanHorn on November 4, 1914, at North Loup. They farmed near North Loup for a number of years She was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Lloyd of North Loup; five sons, Lyle of Fair Oaks, California, Merlyn of North Loup, Harold of Arkansas, Leland of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Carroll of Salem, West Virginia; three daughters, Ruby Meyer of Spencer, Iowa, Muriel Tolfa of North Loup, and Merna Babcock of Eldorado Springs, Missouri; two sisters, Mabel Nelson of Wisconsin and Eva Haskins of California; one brother, Harlan Severance of Oregon; 17 grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. Lloyd Van Horn was born April 16, 1893 at Humboldt, Nebraska to William and Alice Adams Van Horn and died April 11, 1990 at the Rose Lane Nursing Home in Loup City, Nebraska at the age of 96 years. At a young age the family moved to Farnam and in 1910 they moved to the North Loup area. Lloyd was married November 4, 1914 at North Loup to Clara Severance. They lived and farmed at various locations in Valley County. In 1940 they moved into North Loup. Clara passed away February 21, 1988 and in March of 1989 Lloyd moved to the Rose Lane Nursing Home in Loup City. Lloyd was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in North Loup. Survivors include five sons, Lyle of Fair Oaks, CA, Merlin of North Loup, Harold of Arkansas, Leland of Council Bluffs, IA, Carroll of Salem, WV; three daughters, Ruby Meyer of Spencer, IA, Murial Tolfa of North Loup, Merna Babcock of Eldorado Springs, MO; seventeen grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Elma Walkup of North Loup, and a brother Sheldon Van Horn of North Loup. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and a sister. Funeral services were held Monday April 16, 1990 at the Seventh Day Baptist Church at North Loup with Reverend Kenneth Burdick officiating. Music was provided by Jeanene Abel and Jerry Van Horn. Pallbearers were Philip Van Horn, Jerry Van Horn, Walt Tolfa, Michael Tolfa, Mark Tolfa, Joe Palermo. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery at North Loup.
