Some traditions pass as do the generations, while others are continued or created. For my family I remember my father speaking of his childhood in central New York in the 1930s, where on Christmas Eve his father would go out, find, cut down, a tree for Christmas. Brought back home it was decorated with among other things candles, which were lit at some point. For myself, the last few years when we've gone to Minnesota for the holiday, usually after lunch on Christmas day, we've walked down the middle of the local river for a mile or more, seeing the tracks left by the various creatures in the snow on the river and river banks. Sometimes we see pheasant and once I saw a snowy owl.
