    3. yes there was a Greenman shipbuilding yard there and the Greenman had the church built by a Maxson from Westerly about 1840 (may be off by 10 or so years ) he did it so his SDB workers did not have to go far to church .I have some papers on the church and the first service (names time places ) ,I just have to find them . 3. Hi, all- When I said there wasn't an SDB church in Stonington, CT, I was slightly off the mark. There isn't a current SDB church there, nor will you find much info on it in the local libraries. However, there WAS an SDB church in Greenmanville, CT, many, many years ago. Greenmanville no longer exists as a community, but where it was is now part of the Stonington/Mystic area. I own 2 SDB history books, "A Choosing People: The History of Seventh Day Baptists", written by SDB Historian, Don A. Sanford; and "The First Hundred Years, Pawcatuck Seventh Day Baptist Church, Westerly, RI, 1840-1940", published by The Utter Company, Westerly, RI. Don Sanford's book doesn't mention the Greenmanville SDB Church at all, and there are only 2 references to it in the Westerly Church book. One of them mentions it being organized prior to 1851, when one of the Deacons of the Westerly church removed his membership to it, and the other reference mentions that the meetings of the Eastern Association of SDB Churches were held at Greenmanville in May of 1854. What this means is, 1) the records of the Greenmanville SDB Church are probably in the Archives at the SDB Center in Janesville, WI, and access would be through Don Sanford, and 2) since the current Westerly church was organized as an offshoot of the current Ashaway church, the records of members living in the Stonington/ Mystic/ Westerly area prior to 1840 may be part of the Ashaway church's history. I will have to do some research on that and get back to you. BTW, someone mentioned there is an SDB church in Mystic Seaport. That is the Greenmanville SDB Church meeting house. It was moved to the seaport because the Greenman Family, as I understand it, were not only staunch SDBs, they were major players in the early shipbuilding days of the Mystic area. I'm not certain of the history - it's been quite some time since I was exposed to any info regarding the Greenmans and the Greenmanville church. If and when I get more information on them, I'll be sure to pass it along. Terry L. (Crane) Durst Groton, CT

    3. Hi, April. Some greating listings of early members can be found in Don Sanford's book "Newport Seventh Day Baptist Trilogy." It's available at Heritage Books (www.heritagebooks.com) for a very low price. Well worth it for the wealth of data included. It covers the Newport congregation best. I'm not aware of any great books that cover the Hopkinton/Westerly church members. Wish I was. Anyone else have any recommendations? Thanks! 3. Thanks for sharing this great resource, Jan! I have "talked" with them myself and found them to be extremely helpful. However, they are also quite busy. Let's try to use this list as a resource if possible (and it naturally will not always be possible) before going to the SDB folks directly. We are beginning to have many knowledgable members & can help each other out with simple queries. 3. Hi, all- I just joined this list, and the first message was about Stonington, CT SDBs. I'm confused. To the best of my knowledge, there never has been an SDB church in Stonington. There was and is a church in Waterford, CT, and another in Westerly, RI, which is named "Pawcatuck SDB Church", but I've never heard of one being in Stonington. I am an active member of the Westerly church, and am willing to do research regarding it's past members. I also have close friends in the First Hopkinton (Ashaway, RI) SDB Church and the Waterford SDB Church, and I have access to the Rockville (RI)SDB Church. I would be willing to do research at any of these churches. Please contact me either privately or via this list. Terry L. (Crane) Durst Groton, CT

    1. Response from SDB HQ on Henry B. Robison
    2. Thought I'd share this with you! Jan Robison: The Alfred record book which was compiled by my wife, Ilou, relied heavily upon the records of the clerk of the Alfred Church, Frank Greene, who did an outstanding job of including biographical records along with membership lists. Unfortunately, it was done before computers and was all hand written. I checked the original and it could easily be read as either Radison or Robison. The only thing that I could find on Henry B. Robison in our files was his obituary in the Sabbath Recorder vol. 84 # 6 February 11, 1918 pg. 191. Robison---- Henry Bunker Robison, son of Robert and Cynthia Robison, was born in Steuben County, NY April 13, 1844 and died at the home of his son in Salamanca, January 21, 1918, ages 73 years, 9 months, and 8 days. He lived in Steuben County until he was 33 years of age and on September 6, 1866 he was married to Lucinda Green Ormsby. To this union four children were born--- Orson W. of Salamanca; Mrs. Sara C. Shaw of Alfred; Mrs. Emma Vincent of Alfred Station, and Emcie, deceased. More than forty years ago they moved to the vicinity of Alfred Station and he lived the remainder of his life there. He joined the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Hartsville in 1885, and in May of 1910 he transferred his membership to the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Alfred Station, where he remained a faithful member until death claimed him, He was a kindhearted man, much devoted to his family. Mrs. Robison passed away in July 1915, since which time he has made his home with his children. Several months ago he underwent an operation and was thought well on the way to recovery until about a week before his death, he began suddenly to fail. He died in the faith in which he lived, trusting in the Savior who had led him along life's journey. He was the youngest of a family of fourteen children. One brother Silas Robison of Bradford, NY, three children, seven grandchildren and many relatives and friends are left, who realize their loss in his departure. The funeral was conducted in the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Alfred Station at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, Thursday, January 24, 1918 by his pastor. Interment in Pleasant Valley cemetery I. S. G. But hopefully you will see some names you recognize and can let me know how you tie in. Carrie
