I have been searching for the family of JOHN ADAIR who married in York Co. SC in the latter part of the 1700's to JEAN FAIRES, daughter of James Faires. I have just received information on a JAMES ADAIR that I hope to connect to Our John. This comes from the National Archives in Washington DC. and states: "While JAMES ADAIR, SR. was a resident of YORK DISTRIC. SC, he inlisted in 1776 and served in Capt. Frank Ross Company in Colonel Thomas Neel's SC regiment. He later served in Capt. John McCools Co. in Col. David Hopkins regiment.........etc. It goes on to say that "During the Revolution he moved to Carven County (which was later Chester District, SC)..........etc. MY QUESTION: Was YORK DISTRICT and YORK CO. the same area in 1776? ANOTHER QUESTION: Where is the CHESTER DIST SC. located with particular reference to YORK CO. SC. This Texan is showing everyone her ignorance concerning 1776 and SC but I'm more than willing to be educated by all of you. THANKS Nell Adair Lewis
