I endorse Sheila's suggestion below. It was at least ten years ago and before scanners and the lady was in a nursing home. Her brother had been a professional photographer and had wonderful pictures of their home town that I wished to use to illustrate a history of Springs Industries (textiles) that I was doing. She was reluctant to let the pictures outside her room. I suspect that some had been taken and never returned. But after my explanation of their use and handing her a $100 bill for her to hold as security, she let me have one small box of pictures. I had them copied and had told her that I would see that she got a duplicate picture. On my way back it occurred to me that I could xerox copies on a good machine that she would have to give to people. I xeroxed ten of each picture. She was so delighted that she said, "I think I can find some more for you." She did and they were the real prizes! She liked to have all of these originals but there were some people she did not wish to show the originals. I took all of them, placed them on my scanner....like a photo album page....wrote info under them and printed a "photo page" I made copies for interested parties....returned the originals to her where she locked them back in their special place and also gave her the photo pages, placed in acid free sleeves in an inexpensive school type notebook. Now if someone wishes to see her pictures, she drags out the "photo pages", thus perserving her originals....doing this, you not only get the pictures you want but you give the "giver" something in return. Now she calls me when she finds pictures she thinks I might like to copy.
