On the matter of whether Akin/Eakin, etc. could have also been written as Adkins, I doubt it. [ This thought possibly to be origins of York County Adkins/Atkins family because of the use of "Lewis" which is not common, because a Thomas Turner came to the area and because the Pettuses and Harrises, who were neighbors and intermarried were from Hanover County, Va.---not conclusive but enough of a coincidence that it should be considered.] 1. [Flint Hill is located in Fort Mill District of York County, east of the Catawba River, a short distance east of Highway 21 and south of Highway 51, very near Pineville, N.C. Lewis Adkins was born February 9, 1741-42 in Surry (Sussex) County, Va. He was a Revolutionary soldier. He wed Susannah whose maiden name is unknown. After the Revolutionary War, in the year 1793, he sold his Virginia holdings and removed to what is now York County, S.C. settling on Indian Land. In the 1810 census of this area he is shown as living side by side with his son Zaccheus, though in the 1800 Census only. Lewis, shows Zaccheus still being a member of his father's household. In the 1820 census Lewis does not show. [from Tommy Williams] 16. Zaccheus Adkins, son of Lewis and Susannah, was born 1781/2 in Sussex Co., Virginia. He removed with his parents to York County, S.C. sometime between 1793 and 1800. He wed, ca 1805/6 in York County, Prudence Piety Sanseng, or Sensing who was born ca. 1785 in either N.C. or Virginia. Zaccheus Adkins died in York County, S.C. 12 Feb 1827. After his death Piety and some of her children removed to Henry County, Ga. where they remained for several years. Then Piety and her family went ont to Claiborne Parish, La, where she died Sept. 1879. [from Tommy Williams] 17. Elisha Adkins/Atkins, Revolutionary soldier and his wife (unknown) were the parents of Susannah Adkins who married William Dunlap (1767-1829), Sarah who married David Dunlap, Elizabeth married Edward White (Jr.?), Rebecca married John Dunlap, Mary married James Patton. Elisha Adkins probably had a brother, John Adkins, born ca. 1732-35, died ca. 1784. Elisha and John Adkins and their families lived in the Landsford area of both York and Chester Counties, before the Revolution. Since the death of Sarah Dunlap, the said David Dunlap, her husband, has died without issue and intestate, leaving as his heirs his brothers: William Dunlap, George Dunlap, John Dunlap, Benjamin Dunlap, and Gilbert Dunlap.) 18. Adkins, Civil War soldier, died Nov. 25, 1861, was the son of Zaccheus and Piety Sansing Adkins. 20. Absalom & Mary Adkins had a son, John James Adkins, b. Jan 1835, d. May 1, 1892, a Civil War soldier, married Amanda M. Boggs. Also, Absalom & Mary had son Harvey A. Adkins, Civil War soldier, b. Jan 5, 1826, d. May 30, 1890, m. Margaret J. Neely.
