That name is spelled most any way....I know of a John and Phoebe Atkins worshiping at Fishing Creek mid 1700's. The first family in SC by this name was Thomas Akin who was in Charleston in 1675. Later, we find Eakin. The latest variation is Aiken. My Akin family was always insulted to be called Aiken, but I can't believe that they are not all connected somehow. Any ideas that it might have also been Adkins?
