Family history states he married Mary Shields who was from South Carolina. Samuel had a son, George Alexander Stephenson b. 1822 in Limestone County,Al., who married Elizabeth Sarah Perry,one of four daughters of a preacher from South Carolina. Where these Perrys lived in South Carolina is not known. George Alexander Stephenson had a son,William Alexander Stephenson, who married Dolly Darwin of the York County,SC. Darwins in Madison County,Al.in 1879. Dolly was the daughter of George Darwin b. Oct 8,1799in SC. ;d. June 30,1865 in Madison County,Al. and Susannah True. In 1850, William Darwin,age 81,b.SC. was living in the home of George Darwin in Madison County,Al. I would like more information on William Darwin if anyone has it. 1850 Census of Giles County,TN. Samuel Stephenson,age 53,b. SC Mary ,age 53,b. SC. George Alexander ,age 26 b. Al. Mary ,age 18,b. Al. John ,age 16,b. Al. Sylvester Brown ,age 13,b. Al. The Montgomerys,Barrons,Robert Stephenson,and Samuel Stephenson went to Giles County,TN. before 1820. Alexander Barron,William Barron,and Abraham Barron,all brothers, show up in the 1820 census of Giles County,TN. In Pendleton County,SC. Alexander Barron's land adjoined that of George Shields. After they moved to Giles County,George Shields and Alexander Barron were joint owners of 105 acres that was conveyed to Alexander Barron,Jr. in 1814 and the deed was witnessed by Robert Stephenson and his brother-in-law John Barron. John and Margaret Meek Barron are believed to have migrated from Cecil County,MD. and bought land in what is now York County S.C. in 1778.
