Stephen McCorkle Jr. left York County with Hutchisons, Harrises, Whites, and Millers in 1844 following a long drought. He settled in DeSoto Co. in Northern Mississippi. The McCorkle family married into the York County branch of the Hutchisons who also removed to DeSoto County, MS. William Hart McCORKLE b. 25 Aug 1821, Ebenezer, York District, SC d. 15 Feb 1904 at 84 years married 1st , 15 Feb 1849, to Margaret L. ROBINSON. Issue: a. Robert R. McCORKLE Married 2nd, 16 Aug 1860, to Elva GRIER DIXON d. 4 Dec 1884. Issue: b. Mrs. B.N. MOORE c. Paul G. McCORKLE Farmed 19 years. Clerked for Andrew S. Hutchison, son of David Hutchison, in Hutchison’s dry good store. Volunteered in the CSA. Wounded at Sharpsburg. Joined partner, John H. Adams, in Adams Merchandizing after the Civil War until July 1875. Elected probate judge of York County in 1888. Served 8 terms as mayor of Yorkville, York County, SC. 2. Other children mentioned. Stephen McCORKLE Jr. married 2nd, 9 Dec 1925, York District, SC by Robert Walker, minister, to Mary SPRATT, illegitimate daughter of Susan Spratt, who was the sixth daughter of Thomas “Kanawha” Spratt, b.c. 1801 i.e. 77 years @ 1878 d. Monticello, Drew Co., AK (removed to county in March 1860). Susan Spratt, d. 1810, later married, 1809, to Captain Joseph McCorkle. She died in childbirth. Issue: 3.
