Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FdB.2ACE/67.169.171.174 Message Board Post: I don't know if you have done this, but you can pull up census for York County both thru York County and the SC Archives for the period of time you are looking for on the internet. I haven't found very much thru ancestry.com. In 1810 census, there is a James, JR and SR along with others Betsy, Elias, another James, Jean, John, Joseph and McCaslan who might be a relatives. In 1820, there is a James Wallis (many changed to Wallace), Jesse, Joseph Robert and William Wallis (Wallace). You might also search Chester, SC census as many moved back and forth between these two townships. You might also try the York newspapers for that date/period of time for birth announcements. The York library might be helpful with the newspaper info. The problem is that so many had the same names, it is almost impossible to track some of them down. We are having great difficulty. We can find our grandparents and cousins back in the late 1800's , but having a terrible time trying to find the great grandparents. We've been at it for about 5 years. Good luck. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FdB.2ACE/480.1 Message Board Post: I have not personally researched this family in depth. Have come across it in my research on the Lusk family over the years. However, I can give your some sources to research based on my personal knowledge in this area. 1) GenWeb for York Co., SC. Wills are online for Lusk and "Mccleland" surname. 2) Brent Holcomb has a book on Fishing Creek Church which may help. It is Session Records, Visitation Records and Churchyard tombstone records. I don't have a copy at my house to see if there are entries for your surname. 3) Holcomb and Parker's Chester County, South Carolina: Minutes of the County Court 1785-1799. No references. 4) Holcomb's Deed Abstracts of Tyron, Lincoln, & Rutherford Counties, NC: 1769-1786 and Tryon County, N.C. Wills and Estates has references. 5) Well's York County, South Carolina Minutes fo the County Court 1786-1797 has references. 6) I remember a blurb in the York County Genealogical and Historical Quarterly that mentions a "new" family history on this family in one of its issue. Without going through my stack, I can not give you an exact issue. 7) If you don't have access to this documents, Jean Fountain, a local genealogist for hire, can help you locate these items for you. Contact info on York County GenWeb. I have most of these sources in my personal library and know your surname of interest is referred to or not in these texts. Exceptions have been noted.

I didn't even thank you for the info on my ggrandmother, Lizzie! So, really, thanks, I mean it. And while I am at it, contact Eddy Stewart again, Cheryl, cause there shoud be plot cards for those graves somewhere in the M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Homes and you said that they were Baptists? Contact the only Baptist Church in Clover, SC and ask about their funeral service records. I do believe it might help locate the graves if nothing else. Also, I lived on Marion (116?) Street in Clover, SC and across the street catty-corner to our little brick bungalow was where the Baileys all grew up. That big rambling white house had a stone fence all around it and I understand that that location was the site of one of the early graveyards in Clover. Also, at the Mckelvey Center on Jefferson Street in York, SC, I understand there are volunteers there that will do lookups for you, whether cemetery, census, etc within York County only. Agai! n, thanks and good luck! Judi

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FdB.2ACE/383.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Judi, I do know Ed Stuart. When I was visiting in the area last spring I stopped in at the Ford Funeral Home and spoke with him. He had just completed his index of the Clover Cemetery, but did not have the listings I was looking forl. He did say that there was quite a bit of vandalism back in the 1950's and many stones were moved and the gravesites were lost forever. I guess that's where my folks are. I don't live in Gastonia, so I'm not able to research there. For cemeteries though try to get in touch with Bill Floyd. You can find him in the Rootsweb North Carolina page. He has done extensive cemetery surveys in North Carolina. I found my great grandfather's grave site because of Bill. I'm sure if he doesn't have a survey of Laurelwood(?) he can steer you in the right direction. Good luck, Cheryl

I never knew her maiden name, and do not even have a birth or death date. She had 3 children, Lizzie (jr.), Claude Joseph Harris (my grandpa), and Corrie Lee Harris (who married a Hogue).
