    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Moore, Lackey, Alexander, White, Davis, Osborn Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FdB.2ACE/517 Message Board Post: I am looking for the parents of William K. Moore. He was born 1800 in the York District. He seems to have a brother named Ebenezer and a sister named Armanella. Other names that appear in his line are William Jasper, Permelia, and Araminta/Minty (as well as the more common names). Photos of those in his line suggest a strong Indian mix (although this may have come from the Alexander family that some Moores in this line married into). These Moores migrated to Lawrence Co., AL, then to Eastern MS, then to TX.

Moore. He was born in SC 1800. He had a possible brother named Ebenezer, b. 1802 or 1803. He also seems to have a sister named Armanella, b. 1799. These Moores settled in Lawrence Co. AL about 1822 or 1823, then later settled in the Tishomingo Co. area of MS, which includes your county. I also do not know the parents of these Moores. I have some pictures of their descendents and they look very Indian, but I don't know if this came from their spouses or not.

    2. Louise Pettus
    3. James, The York County Genealogical and Historical Society does exist and it publishes a Quarterly (a good bit about it is on the RootsWeb site; if interested in being a subscriber e-mail me at lpettus@cetlink.net and I will send subscription information). As for a newspaper account of the murder of your William Parker, that is highly unlikely. The first newspaper was The Pioneer in 1823-24 and there was not another until 1855. You didn't give a date but I do find that in the York District Probate Records there is an estate settlement for William Parker in 1817. It indicates that his wife was Edy Linsey. Case 27, File 1126. That is all the information I have on hand other than the 1810 census which lists 2 males between 0-10 years; 1 male 26-45; 1 female, 0-10; 1 female 16-26; 1 female 26-45. Good luck in your search. Would there have been a news story about that event, and if so, where would I go to get a copy of it? I want to find his ancestors, but I am stuck. Is there a York Genealogy Society or Historical society that might have information of this type? 1. Re: [SCYORK] How do I find a marriage in York Co. between 1900-1903?
    2. Louise Pettus
    3. Unfortunately, SC did not record marriages until July 1, 1911 and then only in counties until July 1, 1950 at which time the state recorded them. Newspapers possibly reported the marriage. Published in those years were the Yorkville Enquirer, the Rock Hill Herald, The Record (Rock Hill) and the Fort Mill Times. I am not positive but it is likely that the Clover Herald was published. It is unlikely that there was a church record of a marriage. Most marriages were in the home and not in a church and, in any case, if in the church was not usually recorded. An exception would be the Rev. James Henley Thornwell, Presbyterian minister, who kept a personal journal that included marriages. He was pastor at both Unity in Fort Mill and Ebenezer near Rock Hill. Joe Hart of York, now deceased, placed copies of lists of marriages (and deaths) that he found in various sources, in the York County Library (Rock Hill) and its branch in York. Also, his genealogical records and other collections are in the Historical Center of York County in York. It may be possible to find the record you seek there: Historical Center of York County 212 E. Jefferson St. York, SC 29745 HCYorkSC@InfoAve.net http://www.yorkcounty.org/historycenter/ I suggest inquiring by e-mail at the above address. The soldiers allege that they shot only to terrify him. The squad was under the command of Lieut. Benners." I don't have the issue of the following day, so I don't know what the followup story said. You could probably locate it at the NC State Library on microfilm. I'm not related to this family and have no further information.

    1. [SCYORK] Wallace/Farris
    2. I only have a very little information on the "Wallace/Farris connection, but perhaps a little might help. The reason I have only a little is that I had once thought that my G G grandfather Nathan Davis, might have come to Lauderdale Co., AL with the Farrises. I do not nessarily believe that now. I have a Eliza Clarisa Wallace as m to Samuel W. Faris. (only one r) The note for Eliza migt be of more interest to you. I have no source indicated for either Eliza or Samuel. The notes say: Info from Janell Dixon of York County SC list (SCYORK-D@rootsweb.com) April 11, 1999 Also, Eliza is said to be the dau of John Wallace. Also mentioned is a "Joe Hart" This is not much to go on. I have many Wallaces in my family tree, but most are located in MS and I have no firm connections back to John Wallace, other than Eliza. My g g grandfather was in Lauderdale from about 1819 to about 1841, There are many Farrises (Faires, Faris) buried in the Wesley Chaple Cemetery in Lauderdale Co.,AL. L&S, Bob Davis Vancouver, WA
