To explain my interest in Zou Steele DANIEL -- she was a retired missionary who was adopted into my mother's family as a grandparent, and I have long believed that she was also a distant relative as well. (a lady held in high esteem -- my mother and I were named for her). My great grandmother's first husband was Tatum MENEFEE, and they were all settled near Tatum, TX, so maybe that is going to take me somewhere. Thanks again for the tidbits. Zou
Zou, Not that I know of but I only know what happened to five of the 10 children of Robert C. DANIEL and Penelope LANE, who we think were their parents, so TX is a real possibility. All of the ones that I know of (five) basically stayed in GAWGA but a lot of their later bunch and their collaterals moved to Waco, Dallas and even Glen Rose, Sommervell County, TX. These are the children of this Robert and Penelope DANIEL (who we think are their parents). We think they moved to the Keysville area of Burke County, GA from NC about 1812, so any child born before 1812 would have been born in NC. I know the disposition of Sarah, Nancy, Lucretia, Robert (my GGF) and James. The others, I do not have a clue what happened to them. I will tell you the 1999 MEADOWS book on the family of Capt. Allen DANIEL of Madison County, GA lists this family as the children of a David DANIEL (1742-after 1814) and an UNKNOWN but they do not have one bit of documentary evidence for that assignment, except a vague reference in the History of Elbert County, GA, which only "they" seem to be able to find. Most evidence, both family and otherwise, states they are the children of this Robert of Burke County, GA and this is confirmed by information from the VALLOTTON family. From the DANIEL Family Bible as contained in the effects of Willia Mae DANIEL (Mrs. Samuel Clark EVANS of Wadley, GA 1890-1966): Births: i. Allen DANIEL was born Feb. 11, 1793 ii. Milly DANIEL was born Mar. 9, 1795 iii. William DANIEL was born Sep. 3, 1797 iv. Nancy DANIEL was born Sep. 5, 1799 - (1799-1862) married a Richard ERWIN and a Frederick WISE v. John DANIEL was born Dec. 8, 1801 vi. Lucretia DANIEL was born Apr. 8, 1804 - (1804-1849) married an Allen TARVER. vii. Sarah DANIEL was born Feb. 20, 1807 - (1807- about 1860) married Thomas C. WISE viii. Robert W. DANIEL, Esq. was born Sep. 25, 1809 - (1809, NC-1865) married Martha MURPHEY, a Julia or Rachel and Mary Jane RENEAU (my GGM) in 1852 ix. Martha DANIEL was born Mar. 15, 1812 x. James L. DANIEL was born May 16, 1814 - (1814, born Burke County, GA -1857) married Mary MURPHEY and an Ann (1809-1861), possibly an Ann MCGAHEE. My notes on each of these are after the hyphen.... CHANEY is primarily a New England family name and these families are known to have started moving south, especially after the Revolution.. I also know of a rather prominent MCCLELLAN family from the Cabarrus County, NC area and some of them may have floated across the border into SC. This McCLELLAN family was collateral with the TATUM, POTTER, WHITE, COLLINS, HAYNES, SMITH and other families that were involved in the "Island Trading Business." This may mean links to VA, Charleston and to the islands. I know the POTTER and TATUM families were from St. Croix, DWI, at one point. Primarily this bunch was of the professional and/or merchant class. There were also links in this family back to Essex, Caroline and Bedford County areas of VA. My primary area of interest is the DANIEL family, which is also connected to this bunch.

My Margaret was born ca 1823 and was the daughter of Thomas McClelland and the second wife of Benjamin Burgess Chaney. I do not have a death date on her, but she was on the Taledega Co., AL census with B.B. Chaney & family in 1860, but not found later in Van Zandt County, TX where B.B. Chaney died and is buried. Dear Betty, Wondering if you can help me with Parker descendants of my gr-gr-grandfather, John Bell of Gaston Co., NC. His daughter, Sarah Ann Bell (1843-1884), married William C. Lineberger, and their daughter, Essie Lineberger, married John Parker. If you know of their children, or just know where they lived, and their burial place, that would be very helpful to me. Can provide info about Essie's sisters, if that would be of interest to you. Thank you for any help you can give me.
