Hello, I am the SCYORK list administrator. Roots places spam filters on all of it mailing lists. The spam filter will look for key words. I can only guess that the price of the book triggered the spam filter. The problem should go away by tomorrow. If you continue to have problems please contact me at Hope82253@aol.com and I will check with Roots to see what can be done to correct the problem. It is a shame that Roots has to go to such extremes to protect us from spam. Please do not let this discourage you from posting to the list. Roxsanne Wells-Layton

Not long ago on the Virginia Southside list we were discussing a DEED--from the 1700s, no less, but some word or combination of words triggered the automatic filters--and wouldn't let some messages go through. Wish I had such filters for all the junk that DOES find its way to my box--but never through Rootsweb! Cheers, Karen Dale
Good Lord, folks, I am trying to take over a list that I don't own. I administer several and when I saw this message, I just leaped to the conclusion that it was from one of mine. Kathy: Doggone if I know. The only thing I can figure is that their computer software thought you were trying to sell books. Please understand that no human actually looks at these things. My message I sent to York Co List: LOUISE, or anyone familiar with York Co, Probate, I have a question about the book you listed below. Do you understand the references in that book? I have a copy of a page 72 of that book on Cinthy Howser married James Noble. It lists a Case #5, File # 195, and date 1840. I want to order a film at the LDS library of that probate package, but the LDS said they wouldn't know which film to order because they are not by Case & File numbers. Cynthia's father John died in 1833, and the mother Nancy Howser died in 1840. I tried to order the probate from York County, and it is 63 pages, costing $31.50. I really don't have that kind of money to spend on one probate package. I asked them if they would look thru the 63 pages and copy only the page/pages that referred to a daughter named Cinthy/Cynthia. He wrote me back and said there were none, but if there were none, where did they get the name Cinthy to put in the book???? I think they did not want to look thru the 63 pages, and I guess I don't blame them. So, I wanted to order the LDS film so I could look thru the 63 pages myself. But as I stated the LDS said they don't know which film to order. Do any of you have any idea what film this Case & File would be on? Any Help would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Kathy Wells. ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237

Kathy, I understand your frustration. Most estates are not in order--neither alphabetically nor chronological arranged. There is a microfilm master index for estates up to 1813 (C1689 which is the SC State Archives # of the reel) but no index that I know of for entire estates after that date. However, one bit of hope. The Probate Judge Estate Records Books are chronologically arranged . There are two of these reels that have the date 1840: One has the dates 1837-1840 and its reel no. is C1694. The second one has the dates 1838-1840 and its reel no. is C1725. Which one the Howser/Noble one you seek is on, I have no idea. I don't know whether to blame the microfilmer or the probate judge's office for such a mess! Also, on microfilm for will books is Reel # C1695. It has wills for 1800-1813 and wills 1840-1862. And no wills microfilmed for that gap between 1813 and 1840. There is another microfilm reel for Administration, Administration with Will Annexed, and Guardian Bonds Book (and this is the first of that title) that is for 1840-1855, 1855-1868 and 1868-1875 and that Reel No. is C1698. As to not finding a daughter Cindy in the 63 pages, I just read Ms Langdon's introduction to her book. She states emphatically that it is not a record book of marriages but goes on to say that she inferred marriage in such cases as when the estate was distributed that a husband signed for his wife. The person (example: Cindy) may be deceased by the time the estate is probated and the husband collected for her children and several more possibilities. However, I cannot account for no appearance of the name Cindy. If you are interested I know a researcher for hire who charges modest fees and could check this out in the local library, the Historical Center of York County or at Winthrop University, all of which have the microfilm reels you seek.
