Does anyone know which trail most people used who left York County and settled in upper Alabama? Did they travel through northern Georgia and if so, which counties did they most likely go through? Modene Knight Thornton Freestone County Texas

I am descended from son James A. Ditty through his son John D. Ditty and John's son James Isaac Ditty. John & his wife Jane left York Co., SC before 1850 - were in GA 1850 then by 1860 the family w/o John is found in Jackson Co., FL. Does anyone know where in Ireland James came from or anything more about his children - Thomas and Moses B. as indicated in the land records of York Co. Nelle, Forgive me for being forgetful about my history, but was your Martha related to the people who founded Brattonsville? I know it is quite well known and there should be a good bit on that family in that area. The house is well preserved due to it being a historic site. Stephanie Bradley
I believe my GGGrandfather, George MITCHELL, was born in York Co SC in 1790. Also my GGGrandmother, Phoebe Ann Miller was born in York Co SC in 1793. Her father may have been Richard Miller. George and Phoebe Ann were married in Marion Co MS, 23 Jun 1821, moved to Hancock Co and raised 10 sons...Are any of you York Co researchers familiar with these families? If so, I would like to hear from you as I have been unable to identify George's parents...I have information on his decendants and will be glad to share...Many thanks. Joyce Landrum in FL.

Hi All, I'm trying to locate my maternal grandmother's branch of WILLIAMSONS. Her name was/is Katherine WILLIAMSON (maiden name). I have very little information on her - no birthplace or exact age. The only thing that I do know for sure is that from Feb. - June of 1937 she was staying with either Thomas and Sallie KISER or Otis and Christine WORKMAN on Lucas Street in Rock Hill. She may have rented a room. I haven't been able to find a connection with either of these families. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Marian

Looking for someone who is researching Lewis Ezell and Hannah McSwain or the families of either of them. I need to determine if this Lewis Ezell is the same as the one whose will was recorded in Lauderdale County Alabama on 8 Nov 1841. This Lewis Ezell was my 3rd great grandfather and was married, first, to Nancy Rogers, daughter of Jonathan and Priscilla Rogers (source: David Ezell Bible) This confirms that one Lewis Ezell was married to one Hannah McSwain: Estate records of John McSwain, York Co., SC, Case #60, File #2749: .....To any sheriff or lawful deputy - Whereas Lewis Ezell one of the legatees of John McSwain, dec'd. in right of his wife, Hannah, made complaint to me that Chas. Darnell (Darnall - sp) and Sarah Bradford Executor to sd. John McSwains (word ran off paper on copy) refuses or neglects to make a settle on said estate and pay to said Lewis Ezell his legacy agreeably to will of said deceased.... 6 Oct 1813. Would love to hear from anyone with information about these people. Modene Knight Thornton Freestone County Texas

My son-in-law's great grandfather was LeRoy Henry Lemons, b. 3 July 1907 in York Co., SC. His birth certificate, issued in York Co., SC, gives his parents as Thomas A. Lemmons and Sarah Hawkins. LeRoy later moved north, married and had a family and when he put his birth place on the Vermont birth certificate of his daughter, Marie, named Concord, North Carolina. All this really does is place LeRoy's parents in the south at the time of his birth in 1907. I am looking for any information, clues, etc., on Thomas A. Lemmons and Sarah Hawkins.
