Hello all, I have been writing to the list now off and on looking for any information on my grandfather, Gaither A. MOSES. I just got a small break - I found a living relative in NC who knew my grandfather and said he had lived and died and is buried in either York, SC or Clover, SC (she wasn't sure which but said it is one of the two). He died sometime in the 1940's - she didn't know the exact date or exact year. I am begging that someone please see if they can locate an obituary or anything to help me find what cemetary my grandfather is buried at. He is supposed to have been married to a woman named "Rose" at the time and they had children (not sure if hers by previous marriage or if they were Gaither's children). Can ANYONE out there please help me. You all know how very difficult it is to obtain information from the State of South Carolina. I was told by someone at Vital Records this morning that those death records are "MOST CONFIDENTIAL" and "probably more guarded than even the birth records!!!" Can you believe it!!!??? It makes just perfect sense to me - you would want to guard the deceased people more than you would the LIVING!!???? Please excuse the "dripping sarcasm" but I can not believe these people in charge of our family records?? Who do they think they are?? I can even understand them protecting and guarding the records from as she called it "curiosity seekers" but good grief!!! If I say I am a family member and can provide PROOF (can fax them the proof) why can't they give me the information via e-mail and mail the copy of the death certificate to my home address?? Folks, I am NOT a politician but I think some of these "stupid" laws need to be changed and they aren't going to get changed until enough of us start making a lot of NOISE! Looking for information on Eliza Clarissa Wallace m. Samuel W. Faris b. 1785 d. 4/3/1844. I don't have birth or death dates for Eliza - her father is reported to be a John Wallace. A Faris family history shows Eliza's last name as Walker, but Joe Hart has it as Wallace and I believe this to be correct because of a grandmother's recollections. Janelle Dixon
