    3. The Ebenezer cemetery directory shows N. M. Stukes, Dec. 1, 1849-Apr. 27, 1909 and that is the only Stukes listed. As for marriage records, I do not think there is one for Ebenezer or for any other Presbyterian church in York County. The only church in the county that was required to record marriages was the Episcopal Church and there was only one in the last century. The state of S. C. did not require that marriages be recorded until 1915. Newspapers are the only source and they placed only a small fraction of the marriages on their pages. Louise Pettus

    3. Hello, Are there any church records of the above church? My relative Nathaniel Marion Stukes was buried there in 1909 and I would like to know if the marriages of his daughters might have been recorded at the church if they married there. Also would like to know if his wife is buried there too. Thank you for any help. Terry Griffin Britt (female) Florence, SC

They lived in York Co. until 1830 when they were in Henry Co. GA. census records. There are many Smith Families in the census of York Co. but I don't which ones belong to Ann Smith. I'll appreciate all information you can give me.

    3. Terry, There are cemetery records of York County that fall into different categories. There are the Cemetery lists of various churches (but not all churches); there is the work of Joe Hart and T. J. Caldwell in which these two gentlemen read the tombstones in family and abandoned cemeteries; and there are listings of several municipal cemeteries (such as Rock Hill's Laurelwood and York's Rose Hill). These lists can be found in the York County Library (main library is in Rock Hill) and in the Historical Center of York County in York. There are probate records. York County was not one of South Carolina's "burned counties" in the Civil War. These can be found in the Courthouse in York and there are microfilmed copies available for viewing or purchase in the state archives in Columbia. All SC marriage records begin in 1911 as official records recorded by the county. Church records are rare. Joe Hart copied the marriage records from the Yorkville Enquirer and the Rock Hill Herald, maybe others, and there are copies of these in the York County Library and perhaps elsewhere (I am not sure of the locations these might be had.) Hope this helps and hope that another subscriber can add to the above. Louise Pettus

    3. Hi, My great-grandfather was Samuel David Moore, born in Appling, Georgia. He moved to Alabama and married Marguerite Minyard in St. Clair County, AL. They had a big family. He was in the Civil War and led quite an interesting life. I have written a story about his family, but have not actually completed it yet - still looking for more information. I have lists of children and burials, etc. The cemetery he and his wife are bured in has many other Moores, Moors, but some of the family there say they don't know if or how he relates to the rest of the Moores. If anything sounds familiar, write me and I will send you further information. 1. [SCYORK] BETHESDA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
    2. Laverne Long
    3. Thanks, Joyce, and others who replied regarding church records. My interest in Bethesda Presbyterian Church stems from a record at Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church in Chester Co. dated 24 Jan 1802 which says that Alexander McGahie (McGaughey) from Bethesda produced a certificate signed by John Murphy, Elder, stating that he had received privileges and his character was good. He was received by Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church. Alexander's wife was Elizabeth Brakefield. Were any Brakefields buried in the Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery?
