    3. There is a Robert MCCALL in the 1790 census of York Co., S.C. I have not been able to find any other records of him in the county. It appears he only stayed a brief time? Does anyone else have any records of that era in York County that include mention of a Robert MCCALL? I do not believe his name appears in deeds, etc. Thanks, Gary E. Young

    3. Hello Jeff, I am sorry to say I did not make a note of where I got my information from about Margaret CROW married to James Graham BABER.But looking at the 1850 census of York Co;Margaret is listed at the age of 25.Head of household,Thomas W.CROW and wife,Jane. That is all that I have so far.I wish I had more to share with you before 1850.I have heard that the BABER `s married into the GOFORTH`s but have not tried to find out how. Also looking at the 1850 census I do not see a Hannah CROW.I do know that J.G.BABER and Eugenia lived in Blacksburg,SC after their marriage. I also noticed you have ETTERS in the Little Bethel Methodist {Martin} cemetery.I have James Madison BABER who married Elizabeth ETTERS.Both are buried at Beth Shilo Presbyterian Church in York,SC.I do not have who Elizabeth`s parents are. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The McCelvey Center in York (212 E. Jefferson St.) a multi-purpose facility houses the Historical Center of York County. It is county-supported. The collection your refer to is, no doubt, the Joe Hart Collection. Mr. Hart collected information on numerous families in the county over a number of years (he still lives but is in a nursing home and no longer active in collecting). One of the stipulations he made when turning over his collection which is in notebooks, alphabetically arranged, was that they were not to be duplicated by xeroxing or filming. So, if you go, be prepared to copy by pencil. Some people resent this stipulation but others recognize that Mr. Hart had his own reasons. One of the reasons being that people who really cared about particular information would be grateful for it in any form. The McCelvey also has a number of the older court record books (not deeds, they remain in the courthouse) that the Courthouse has neither room to store or to handle the number of genealogists who would like to explore them. They also have books, maps, microfilms, etc. that one would expect to find in a local history library. The hours are M-F, 10 to 4:00. I hope I got all of this right (I am not an employee but an occasional user). Louise Pettus

I only have a Hannah Crow. Hanah is reportedly the d/o of a Thomas H. Crow. Is this the same Thomas? Hannah (d. 1890) was married 1849 to Johnson Goforth b. October 17, 1810 York Co. SC. Please tell me if you can confirm this. I would like to have an outline of your Crow family pre 1850. I would be interested in knowing more about this Mount Paran Church also. It is my understanding that it is located a mile or two North of Blacksburg, South Carolina on Old Shelby Road very near the NC border. Is this correct? Doesn't that put it in present day Cherokee Co. SC? Many of the folks I am researching have ties to this church. 3. Anyone out there researching the Thomas Sparks-Catherine Swaime family? They were natives of Surry County, NC and married there in 1837.Thomas Sparks was born 25 Dec 1816 and died 23 Nov 1863 and Catharine Swaime was born 11 April 1816, death date unknown. Her youngest child was born in 1851. It is believed that they moved to York County in the early 1840s. They lived at the railroad stop called Catawba, south of Rock Hill. The Children: Solomon, Michael, William Ashley, John Calvin, Adeline Josephine and Martha Ellen. My direct ancestor is Adeline Josephine who married Marion DeKalb Rodgers.
