SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/York/10525 Surname: Smith, Adams, Dickson, Shirley ------------------------- I do not know Samuel's siblings either. Samuel and Elizabeth raised a family of ten children in York County: L. Lowry, Alfonzo, Lawrence, Louise who married J. Randolph Wallace, Mary who married Alex Hamel, Eliza who married James A. Hogue, Elizabeth (Betsy) who married John R. Hogue, Frances H., Emily R., and my great grandfather Dr. Samuel Aven Smith who married Isabella Elizabeth Jackson (1) and after her death, married her sister Suilla Jackson. I reviewed the ancestors of Zadok D. Smith as noted in the June 1989 issue of The Quarterly, pub of the York County G&H Society, but cannot make a linkage there for my Samuel Smith.

SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/York/10524 Surname: SMITH, ADAIR ------------------------- I saw your posting for your GG grandfather's SMITH family that you said went to York Co. SC abt. 1804. I too have been searching for a SMITH family that was in York Co. SC about the same time, who belonged to my GG Grandmother, Anne SMITH born May 17, 1789................I also believe there were several families of Smith in the area at the same time but have not found the right family for Anne Smith. I'll try & keep this short, but Anne SMITH married James ADAIR who we 'think' was also from York Co. SC. He was born June 08, 1790. The birth dates came from my Grandparents ADAIR family Bible, but no documentation or locations to go with it. I found James & Anne's family on an 1850 census in Memphis, Shelby Co. TN, where James & Anne both said they were born in SC. The couple migrated to Locus Grove, Henry Co. GA by 1823 when their lst son, John Smith ADAIR was born. My G Grandfather, Andrew Jackson ADAIR was born in Henry Co. GA in 1831. We 'think' but can't as yet Prove that there was a Wiliam Adair in Henry Co. GA that was the brother to James. This William married Susannah Davis Rooker d/o Rev. John Rooker of York Co. SC on Dec 30, 1823 in York Co. SC. I've no idea who was Anne's family and wondered if any of this might be familiar to you. I have a great deal on this couple after they were in Henry Co. GA and would be happy to share information and Proof of what we do and do not have.

    2. Hi This came in yesterday, and something hat I never see addressed, and thought some might be interested. Betty EVERTON'S FAMILY HISTORY NEWSLINE, WEEKEND EDITION is sponsored by FamilyReunion.com, where you can get information on family reunions all around the globe, post your own family reunion notice, and get helpful information on planning a successful family reunion.  http://www.FamilyReunion.com Saturday, 2 June 2001 Finding Divorce Records in the United States The Genealogist's Address Book Address Book: Selected Divorce Record Resources Finding Divorce Records in the United States An ecclesiastical authority who lived in a country where divorce was illegal once remarked that divorce is a bad thing, but sometimes it is necessary. If your own family tree includes a divorce, you may find it a challenge to track down the documentation. Recent divorces in the United States have been handled by courts, usually a local court (county or municipal). In some cases a state may have an index or even certificate copies of such actions, but in most cases you will need to know where the court action took place, and about when it occurred to request a copy of the record. Earlier divorces required legislative action, meaning the records are likely to be in the state archive or library, filed with the rest of the legislative papers. Due to the nature of the action, many divorce records are closed for a specific number of years, and may only be available to close relatives. The Genealogist's Address Book One of the best print resources for government offices, libraries, archives and other places genealogists can turn to for information is the third edition of The Genealogist's Address Book. This handy reference book can supply you with contact information for thousands of places with biographical and genealogical data. It can save you hundreds of hours as you plan your research, and as you use correspondence to further your quest for your roots. I have some more information sent to me by a Reeves researcher that states that Thompson Reeves was the son of William Reeves and Elizabeth Thompson. Their information shows that this William Reeves was married twice and Thompson is the only child I have for their marriage. I do have the other marriage/children for William Reeves. If you are interested, let me know.

The Ross part of my name comes from my maternal grandfather whose last name is Ross and has been traced directly to Betsy Ross. The Gwin part of my name is from my father's side. He grew up in Alabama, but there's a possibility that he had past relatives in South Carolina. Does anyone know if it's possible that the "family tree" has forked...so to speak...to become Ross Gwin ?

    1. Ecclesiastical Calendar Dates
    2. I thought this might be of interest to some. Betty >Sometimes in our research we are confronted with dates related to >religious observances. For example, my brother recalls that our Great-Aunt >Ida died on Palm Sunday in 1955. A grandmother's diary entry referred to >the second Friday after Lent in 1914. In the past, it took considerable >investigation at the library to determine the actual calendar date as >being 3 April 1955. A Web site called "Calculation of the Ecclesiastical >Calendar" at ><http://www.smart.net/~mmontes/ec-cal.html>http://www.smart.net/~mmontes/ec >-cal.html provides a simple facility for determining dates of Western and >Orthodox religious observances, particularly those moveable dates such as >Easter and other feast dates. Lists of the dates for Orthodox observances, >using both the old and new calendarists' dates, and the Western dates are >included. You can also select one of those three calendars, enter a year >after 325 AD, and you will be presented with a complete list of all the >ecclesiastical dates for the year and the day of the week on which it >fell. SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/York/10507 Surname: Carothers, Wilson, McDowell ------------------------- The wife of Robert Wilson was Eleanor Carothers. I think that has been pretty well proven. My g-granmother was Mary Ann Wilson of south Mecklenburg County. My direct Carothers line was through John Carothers and Sarah Neely. Mary Ann Wilson's line goes through Robert Wilson and Eleanor Carothers. I will have to check my records on Jane. There were a lot of Wilsons in Mecklenburg County and many move to Tennessee.

I had that much from Jane's Rev War Widow's Pension Application...but only that her father was William McDowell and that he had removed his family from York SC to Mecklenburg NC. Also do you have anything on the wife of the elder Robert Wilson....Eleanor. I was told that it might be Carothers....but I have not one bit of proof of that.
