"Presley Durant Baker, Jr. Presley Durant Baker, Jr., 76, ofApt. 217, Heritage Court Apts., 425 S. Church St., and formerly of Hall Street, died February 2, 2000 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Williamsburg County, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Presley Durant Baker, Sr. and Addie Marie Gowdy Baker. He was a graduate of Hebron High School, graduate of Spartanburg Methodist College and attended Wofford College and was employed with Carolina Cash Co. for almost 50 years. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for over 30 years, served as secretary in the Elementary Department, served on the Administrative Board and as an usher. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley B. and Eddie Joel Mills of Spartanburg, brother and sister-in-law, Larue H. and Mary Von Baker of Cades, SC; sister-in-law, Mrs. Myers S. (Betty) Baker of Myrtle Beach, SC; three nephews, Jeffrey Baker of Ocala, FL, Kevin Baker, of Myrtle Beach, Joel B. Mills of Spartanburg and one niece, Marie Mills of Charleston; dear friend, Kathleen Fowler and his housekeeper, Lillian Dawkins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Myers S. Baker and a sister, Mrs. D. W. (Emma Jean) Evans. The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 pm, Friday, February 4, 2000 in the parlor of Bethel United Methodist Church. Funeral service will follow at 2 pm in the chuech conducted by the Rev. Larry F. Hays and the Rev. Daniel A. Morrison, Jr. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Andy Cannon, Bernie England, Steve Cannon, Dan England, Henry Cavin, Joe Locke, Bob Handell, Kent Smith, Bill Sinclair and Stan Carlisle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Bethel United Methodist Church, 245 S. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Joel Mills, 319 Earl Drive, Spartanburg.
