Hello List, When each of you subscribed to the SCWILLIA list, you received a reply that included a list of rules. The following is a copy of what you received when you subscribed to the list. I think that now is a good time to remind everyone. If you have any questions, please send them to me privately. Donna Witt - List Manager FORUM POLICY Remaining subscribed or otherwise using the Forum in any manner shall constitute acknowledgment that you have read and agreed to the following Forum Policies. If you cannot follow these policies, you may be UNSUBSCRIBED without notice. 1. Fundamental Policy. All messages to this forum should be appropriate for a "General" audience. This is a public Forum accessible to people of all ages, sexes, races, religions, political philosophies, nationalities, etc. Remember that the absence of visual clues normally associated with face to face communication provides an ideal environment for being misunderstood. Vulgarity and personal attacks on other list members is unacceptable. If someone else violates this rule, please do not send their message back to this list. Send it to the forum manager. 2. Inappropriate Messages Test messages, virus alerts, chain letters, profanity, insults, political statements, commercial ads, personal messages, inappropriate announcements, off topic messages, copyrighted material and other annoying messages. 3. Privacy Rights of Others. Respect people's feelings and their right to privacy. Please think carefully before forwarding an e-mail message. Do not send personal information about living persons without their permission. 4. Subject Lines and Message. ALWAYS include a descriptive subject line with your msg. If you are seeking information about a family, include the surname in UPPERCASE and year in the subject line. Remember that many readers receive numerous messages each week and the subject line helps them to decide if they should read your message or not. "Help" or "Genealogy" or "Williamsburg Co." are not good subject lines. Please be specific, especially when asking questions. If you are asking about a person, identify when and where that person might have lived. And please... when you post your information, post all that you can. Places, dates, children, multiple generations. 5. Replying. Most email programs automatically quote the whole message when you reply. Only quote the relevant portions of the original message. Delete extraneous material. Excess quoting is annoying to other subscribers and also wastes archive space. 6. Message Format and Attachments. Do not send HTML format messages or file attachments to the email Forum. For some subscribers File attachments and HTML encoded messages cause confusion and problems. Make sure HTML format is turned off in your email program and that "cards" are not being appended to messages sent to the email Forum. For instructions on how to turn off HTML or RTF in various e-mail programs, go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm
