I know that the wills for the whole state were in Charleston before the Rev. War. I don't know the exact year of the change, but about that time, SC was divided into districts and wills could be probated at the district level. Prior to that, it was necessary for the administrators to go all the way to Charleston to probate a will. Most genealogy libraries around here (Dallas area) have a set of books containing abstracts of all the SC wills during the time they all had to be probated in Charleston, and the books are well indexed.
