The only Camp Branch that I know is in Florence Co., just outside of Lake City. There is a Camp Branch church there also. I believe it is Baptist. Donna
Hi, My ancestor Nathaniel Floyd sold his son Andrew Floyd land that was in Sumter District in 1854. Nathaniel Floyd (signed JR) to Andrew Floyd, Sumter District, Conveyances P, p. 129-130 "Know all men by these present that I Nathaniel Floyd of the state of South Carolina planter of the same for the consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars or less one dollar per acre of Andrew Floyd my son" The location being "situated between Camp Branch and Kingstree swamp waters of Black River in Sumter District" Is Camp Branch in Williamsburg or Florence Co? My great-grandparents are buried at Camp Branch (?) church. The deed also includes this tidbit to question how the Fulwoods are related "I do hereby bound my self my heirs and my executors and administrators to warrant and surety these acres originally granted to Robert Fullwood AD 179_ (of the which land there is a regular chain of title to Nathaniel Floyd Sen)" Ms. Eaddy's transcription of the Williamsburg Deed Book C offers a clue but the handwriting was illegible so she wasn't sure of the initials. Should this M be a N for Nathaniel? Williamsburg Deed Book C, p 408, recorded 1 March 1830 "M. (W?) J. Floyd and Elizabeth A. K. Floyd to Harper Johnson. Sumter District. J. M. J. Floyd and his wife Elizabeth formerly Elizabeth A. K. Fulwood for $15 paid by Harper Johnson release their right to a plantation that was sold by William Smith to Sarah Fulwood who is the present wife of said Harper Johnson, in 1810, and sold by Harper Johnson to Daniel McKenzie in 1819 and the said M. J. Floyd and Elizabeth A. K. Floyd 28 Jan 1830. Does anyone know what these men's names should be? witnesses to deed in 1854: Jacob Rolong, Saul (?) Fouilinson Dy____ Jane Hurd researching Floyd, Powell, Fulwood(?)
My web page is at: http://home.earthlink.net/~renascence/diana.htm. I am quadri-racial -- Native American, African, European (English & French) and Chinese. I am searching for data regarding my French ancestor (Beton or Betou) who was a plantation owner in Bamberg County (or near there). His mulatto son was William Simmons who was active during the Civil War. Also, I seek data about the Chinese presence in SC. Thank you. Sincerely, D. Thompson
The Mormons' Family History Center probably has helpful data. Diana
They are not familiar. However, I am looking for a French plantation owner whose name may begin with a "B" (Beton or Betou). He was one of my ancestors. He had several children. One son was William Simmons, who was active during the Civil War. Bamberg, or a nearby county, was the home of the plantation owner. Thank you. Diana
I need some help here. I have a book from Three Rivers, Probate Records, page 121 that incorrectly lists an announcement out of the Georgetown paper. It says "I. G. Mcknight to Julian J. Barrineau, daughter of Isaac Barrineau, Esq. on the 20th ault". It appeared in the Georgetown Gazette on May 19, 1826. So many of the letters written back then can be mistaken for others and I believe this should be J. G. instead. Hubby's grgrandfather was John G. McKnight married to Julian J. Barrineau. I sure would appreciate a copy of this announcement out of the paper if some one could help me. I believe it is their marriage announcement. Thanks! JONI
Dear Diana: I found some BARRINEAU`s in my book of relatives. Let me know if any of these names sound familiar to you. Harvey Milton Harvey Shelton Nancy Myreece Pearl Thanks Diana
Dear Diana: I checked all that already. All I know is they lived in Williamsburg County in 1911 because, that is were my Grandfather was born. I have checked the 1880 census and didn`t find them in it. But, Thankyou for your advice. Diana
