On my husband's great-grandfather's SSN application, signed in 1937, he gives place of business as "DAWSON ENG. CO." and their address as "10-GILLON ST. CHARLESTON, S. C." Does anyone know what this company did? I've found the address on a map, it is right next to the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon in Historical Charleston. However the company is no longer there, and I'd like to know what it was. For his own address, he listed "NONE" for street and number, and "ANDREWS, S. C." for Post Office and State. In 1910, he said he was a farmer, in 1920 he said he was a general merchant. On his death certificate, he was a retired building contractor. I also have a note that he was a railroad worker. Can anyone help? Thanks, Kathryn Graham Columbia, SC

I need to know if anyone out there can come up with the following names, and information on them: Rectina Elizabeth Wisdom Chandler, Rachel Lawrence, Fannie Murray. Rectina was the daughter of Rachel Lawrence, both of Williamsburg county. Fannie, I think was from Sumpter county. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Inez
I would like to know who the etc's. are. Maybe you may find more family this way.
You can view the census, at the National Archives in Washington D.C., for 1910, also you may want to check out your neighborhood library.

You can order it through the nearest LDS Family History Center. Or if you want to pay the cost, you can purchase it on CDROM from HeritageQuest. They have every roll of census microfilm copied to CDROM, and digitally enhanced to make them easier to read. The price is $19.95 each, plus shipping, and their numbers are the same as those on the films from the National Archives. I bought eight of them (from TN and KY) in May and I'm delighted with them. ....BettyC
There have been no slaves since 1866 or so. So your 86 yr old grandmother could not have been a slave. Perhaps she meant her parents or grandparents. Lucretia (last name unknown) married James Marshall , c, 1796, and they lived in Black Mingo area. I found only one Lucretia Kennel who married John June in Prince Frederick Parish. That is the Parish of Black Mingo. She may have been an ancestor.
