Are the marriage records for early Union county, SC availablee? If so, could anyone do a lookup for James Smith Jones marrying Lavina or Mary Smith about Feb 1835? I'd be much obliged;-) Ray Mays, San Angelo, TX
I am sorry to report that South Carolina kept no marriage records until after 1900. They considered marriage to be a concern for the Church, not the State. Problem is, nearly no Church records have survived. Unless you can find a newspaper announcement or something of that nature, you are going to have to do what the rest of us do...use a deed, will or some other document to prove the marriage took place and "best guess" the date.
